Horrible Amp Noise

Hi, New around this area of UM.

I have a Peavey 5150II and even when nothing is plugged in i get ridiculous amounts of hiss, I don't know what the problem is. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's a really annoying problem.

I had the same problem with a Peavey Artist 112. The problem turned out to be internal. It cost $80 to get the amp serviced but it's nice and quiet again now.

Noise gate won't do shit. READ: "and even when nothing is plugged in". You can't get a quieter inbound signal than no signal at all.
