I can't believe it's been 12 years! This happened right after I moved to Florida in '93. I was listening to the radio and they were playing all Savatage. I thought that was odd, but since they were from here it made some sense. Then the DJ came on and said he was killed in a car wreck the previous night. I actually had to pull over the car because I was in such shock. A truely horrible moment in metal history. One of the most underated guitarists ever IMO. At least his music will live on forever!!!!
There's a reason he's in the UMOS header graphic. And he will always be missed in my hallowed halls. Let's see, now where's my copy of Power of the Night. Ah, there it is, hello Christopher.
I'm doing a double shot of Savatage in his honor on my show on Thursday. "Prelude to Madness/Hall of the Mountain King" and "Edge of Thorns". RIP, one of the greatest guitarists EVER.
