Review the last movie you saw thread

Super Troopers:

Funny shit, has aged fairly well considering most early 2000's comedies don't seem to have done the same and Jay Chandrasekhar (the director) has one of the most subpar filmographies I've ever seen. Some of the better scenes:

Maximum Risk: 1996 Jean-Claude Van Damme action/thriller directed by Ringo Lam. Wasn't expecting much from this one when I put it on, figured it was an obvious weak link film thrown onto a JCVD 3 disc DVD with two of his more popular films, ended up thoroughly enjoying it. He faces off against the Russian mafia in America so it's loaded with great villains and endless goons for him to dispatch with spin kicks. 8/10

Nighthawks: 1981 gritty terrorism/action/crime/thriller by the guy who went on to direct Hard to Kill (with Seagal) with Stallone in the lead, Billy Dee Williams in the support and Rutger Hauer as the main antagonist. Kinda felt like Assault on Precinct 13-lite in many places, but overall I'd compare it to Scorpio or Day of the Jackal. Damn near a perfect film within its particular genre. 9/10

Project A: 1983 action/comedy period film directed by and starring Jackie Chan, with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao in support roles. Definitely not one of Chan's best of the 80's but it's fun and has its place. The main villain is a brutal, totally jacked pirate with body tattoos and a fucking sword. I believe this is Chan's 4th film he directed. 7/10

Echelon Conspiracy (2009) - ok for what it is, a cheesy rip off of a rip off of US political/surveillance thrillers. Has some unintentionally funny moments. Always enjoy Ving Rhames when he even somewhat gets to be his badass self.

I rewatched The Flight of the Navigator (1986). I bought it on DVD in the 2000s because I really liked it as a kid. It's still good fun.

Funny, I rewatched that just recently too. Some dodgy upload of it popped up in my youtube recommendations.

Hah cool! I don't know if I've ever talked about the film before except for with my immediate family.

I looked up the main actor in it a couple of days ago and it seems he didn't act much at all after that film. It seems odd how that would happen.

Halloween (1978). I don't think I had actually ever seen it before. Of course it's a classic slasher flick. It was an enjoyable watch, though you have to be willing to suspend disbelief. My daughter said it was the worst horror film she'd seen.

Go West (1940). I've been watching all the Marx Brothers movies. Basically all great so far, so that's a level of consistent quality very few actors reach. I'd only seen Duck Soup when I was younger and didn't remember anything about it except that I found Groucho's word assaults hilarious. Their comedy can get a bit samey, but a few of the films have specific scenes that are among the all-time greats of cinema (most notably the broken mirror scene in Duck Soup and the finale in A Night at the Opera). Go West is one of those films: the finale with the train and how smashed up it gets by the end is pure gold. Most of the remainder is so-so. Maybe they've had their run by this point, but Chico's piano playing still rocks and Harpo gets to use some explosives. The racist depiction of Native Americans is unfortunate, but sometimes you get that shit watching movies this old.
