SYMPHONIC METAL

Ancient Bards (debut album)
Twilight Force ("Heroes of Mighty Magic")
Thy Majestie (esp. the "Hastings 1066" album)
Pathfinder (only two albums released, both great)
Celesty ("Vendetta")
Dragonland ("Under the Grey Banner")
Fairyland ("Score to a New Beginning")
Lux Perpetua ("Curse of the Iron King")
Some oldies there but most of them over-looked/under-rated in general

I really thought Bride Adorned would take the baton from Rhapsody with their symphonic bombastic sound but sadly they could never pull it together. They did several demos one of which was The Grey Eminence which was stunning but could never build on it's success. I think the band broke up after 1 release but they definately deserved to be mentioned.

Tons of good stuff. If extreme metal is your route, try Emperor

Christopher Lee had a pretty cool Symphonic thing going on

And lastly, one of my favorite Christian Metal acts, Divinefire!
