The Gathering

I've enjoyed Anneke's work with the Devin Townsend Project so much that I'd like to check out the band she was best known for, The Gathering. What's a good album to start with, any suggestions?

Here's my personal ranking: 1) If_Then_Else
2) Mandylion
3) Nighttime Birds
4) How To Measure a Planet
5)Souvenirs
Their latest, "The West Pole" is very good as well but it doesn't have Anneke on it.

All of the albums mentioned above are good choices, but I consider Souvenirs their most complex work. Its production is sublime and Anneke's singing is worth dying for. That said, it's hard to get into the album on first listen.

I agree Mandylion is their very best; dare I say prog metal classic? In any event there is a big drop-off in quality after this one. Nighttime Birds is the next in quality. IMO, of course.

There were definately some goods songs on Nighttime Birds.
