Top Ten of 2011 Lists!

Only four for me so far, not in order:

Voyager - The Meaning of I
Leprous - Bilateral
Symphony X - Iconoclast
T.M.Revolution - Cloud 9

I still need to listen to Eumeria and DT, and looking forward to Lance King's solo.

1. Corelia: Nostalgia EP.

If you haven't heard this band, do yourself a favor and check this out (listen to at least 1 minute before you make any decisions):

2. Borealis: Fall from Grace
3. Work of Art: In Progress
4. Amaranthe: ST
5.Devin Townsend: Ghost
6. Redemption: This Mortal Coil

Haven't decided yet on the last 4

Still need more listens but samples of my Top Ten will most likely include Redemption, Pain of Salvation (hey I loved RSI), and what should be arriving this week the new Magenta (Wales) release... have I mentioned I'm a Magenta fanboi? Now to find a list of 2011 releases ...

1 - Mercenary - Metamorphisis
2 - Insomnium - One for Sorrow
3 - Pagan's Mind - Heavenly Ecstasy
4 - Amorphis - The Beginning of Times
5 - Nightrage - Insidious
6 - Scarr Symmetry - The Unseen Empire
7 - Evergrey - Glorious Collisions
8 - Iced Earth - Dystopia
9 - In Flames - Sounds of a Playground Fading
10 - Before the Dawn - Deathstar Rising

Still have to see about Dragonland, Nightwish & Iron Savior before the end of the year is up.

Biggest disapointment: Edguy - Age of the Joker, but after Tinnitus Sanctus what else is new. Could throw in Avantasia as well. What happened to the band that released Vain Glory Opera, Theatre of Salvation & Hellfire Club.

my contenders for my Top Ten so far are (in no particular order):

Pagan's Mind- Heavenly Ecstasy
Evergrey- Glorious Collision
Eumeria- Rebel Mind
Arch/Matheos- Sympathetic Resonance
Voyager- The Meaning of I
Lost in Thought- Opus Arise

Daaaayum brah, I like yer list.

Had no clue they even did a new one. Well then, this will have to go pretty high up on my buy list.

Yeah, the new Jesu is great, but it just came out a couple of weeks ago. Broadrick doesn't necessarily reinvent the wheel, but it's definitely really goddamn good.

As far as the new Mastodon goes, my opinion is a little skewed because I'm a complete fanboy for those dudes. I liked it right away on the whole, but as with every Mastodon release, it takes a few listens to get really into it. When Crack The Skye came out it took me a few months after the initial listen to try it again. Inevitably, it didn't leave my rotation for the better part of two years. Unless you truly dispised every second of it, I'd give it a few more listens.

I've been slacking HARD this year. Haven't listened to a whole lot of new full lengths. Cold Cave, Galdr, Necros Cristos, Negative Plane, In Solitude, DISMA, and Execration are probably up there. Lots of cool splits/EPs this year, though. The Cruciamentum/Vasaeleth EP is top notch. Debut from Invidious is nice but that's no surprise given the lineup. Tbh most of the records I have seen hyped this year are total trash.

My growing and changing list.

Redemption This Mortal Coil
Dream Theater A Dramatic Turn of Events
Wolverine Into the Great Nothing
Between the Buried and Me The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues
UneXpect Fables of the Sleepless Empire

Keeping this to just 10 is really hard given just how many great albums came out this year. Here's where I'm at so far:

1. Leprous: Bilateral
2. Voyager: The Meaning of I (and this is a reeeeeally close second)
3. Ghost: Opus Eponymous (since it didn't get released in the US until 2011)
4. Widow: Life's Blood
5. Twisted Tower Dire: Make It Dark
6. Arch/Matheos: Sympathetic Resonance
7. Eden's Curse: Trinity
8. Pagan's Mind: Heavenly Ecstasy
9. Powerwolf: Blood of the Saints
10. Rob Moratti: Victory

Honorable mention to Anthrax, Anubis Gate, Benedictum, Helstar, Vicious Rumors, Hardcore Superstar, Crashdiet, Symphony X, Scheepers and even Stryper's cover album.

I just added a bunch of cds to my check out list. I had no clue Wolverine had a new disc this year and still have been meaning to check out Voyager and Anubis Gate fully.

My list so far this year;
Trivium - In Waves
Machine Head - Unto the Locust
Scar Symmetry
Amon Amarth
Between the Buried and Me
Symphony X
Lazarus AD
Mercenary
Textures
Sylosis
The Black Dahlia Murder
3
All Shall Perish
Haken
Protest the Hero
Vintersorg

The Lazarus AD and Trivium are definitely extremely high up on the list and I know I will get a lot of shit for that here.

1. Protest The Hero- Scurrilous
2. Leprous - Bilateral
3. Pain Of Salvation - Road Salt Two
4. Arch/Matheos: Sympathetic Resonance
5. Devin Townsend Project - Deconstruction
6. Pagan's Mind - Heavenly Ecstasy
7 Opeth - Heritage
8. Unexpect - Fables of the Sleepless Empire
9. Anthrax - Worhsip Music
10. Queensryche - Dedicated to Chaos..... JUST KIDDING! :fu:

There is still quite a few albums I haven't given a proper listen to so I'll consider this my rough draft.

A lot of stuff that I haven't spent enough of time with. Textures, Thrice, Arch/Matheos, Phideaux, Magic Pie... not enough time. :(

10. Redemption - This Mortal Coil
9. 3 - The Ghost You Gave to Me
8. Battle Circus - Battle Circus
7. Devin Townsend Project - Deconstruction
6. Pain of Salvation - Road Salt Two

The next 5 are nearly impossible for me to rank. They're all bordering on perfection, IMO.

5. Hotel of the Laughing Tree - Terror and Everything After
4. Protest the Hero - Scurrilous
3. Haken - Visions
2. The Dear Hunter - The Color Spectrum
1. Leprous - Bilateral
