Sweet Oblivion - The triumphant return of Geoff Tate?

Their debut album coming is coming in June. It's got Simone from DGM and sounds pretty fantastic.

    Bigfoot! Amazing UK rock

http://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=dOg4mQGK1bQ Seriously reminds me of early Tyketto. I know this isn't PP traditional but damn this is slick stuff. They have recorded two EPs and are due for a full release on Frontiers this summer. Super cool guys too. Please check em out and support if...

Anuryzm - The best album nobody is listening to

It's a mixed bag of styles but it's diverse, complex, groovy, heavy and melodic. Imagine mixing Symphony X with Caligula's Horse and a dose of Amorphis. They don't have the pedigree of the above but they are damn good. Cool stuff, I just ordered from LE.

Eleventh Hour - Memories of a Lifetime Journey

Here's the best 2015 project you've never heard of. Alessandro Del Vecchio the songwriter for a lot of the Frontiers label albums, is now showing off his voice for this prog metalish band.

    Ascendia/Lion and the Jester contest

Hey all, I'm giving away a copy of Ascendia's debut album. I couldn't think of a way to do it until I talked with Jon and we figured it out. Here's the deal: The first member to correctly guess the first band Ascendia opened for wins. There's no way to google or bing the answer so it's...

    Neonfly - Strangers In Paradise

Wow. I randomly stumbled across these guys on youtube. Great, tight band that is firmly planted somewhere between Disturbed's Believe and the new Amoral disc, closer to the latter. I have no idea how to attach a link to youtube on my phone, so sorry about that. This would have been top five...

    Conception - FLow tour 97

I stumbled upon this vid today. Not great quality, but still pretty damn cool. I know most here got to see the reunion in Atlanta, but for those who did not, here's a look back before PP.

    Great albums nobody talks about

I can't say they've never been discussed here but these have NEVER been given their due. These are albums that kick my ass that probably no one else listens to or owns, which may totally be a sign of poor taste on my part. Here we go... Borealis/Fall From Grace - I vaguely remember these...

Heavy Metal how-to videos for beginners

Okay, feel free to move this to a more appropriate forum, but I figured you guys here on the main would appreciate this the most. These parodies are gold, and I'm betting we all know a few of these people. For some reason I can't always embed a video, just a link so I apologize if it happens...

    So, what's left for 2014?

This has been one of the best years I've ever had music-wise and am curious what's next. I just picked up the new 220 Volt from NEH and I know the Sanctuary is released Oct 14. Outside of those what else is on the horizon in the PP vein? I'm very interested in the new Black Fate, but that's a...

Shattered Skies - debut album in January

Hey, Mardoch, this one is for you...well, and me too. I've been following these guys for a while waiting for them to get signed. I guess they found a small Euro label. Badass stuff, folks. They are mixing djenty-ness with Circus Maximus like vocals. The entire djent movement may be wearing...

    CD's I cannot stop playing

I've tried to introduce some variety to my car's speakers and it's not going well. I keep playing the same five discs. I feel like I'm not being fair to my CD collection by playing favorites, but these albums just have grabbed me and will not let go, like they are fused to my body...

Best vocal performance on an album?

I'm not looking for the best vocalist in the genre because that's way to subjective. What I'm looking for is the best performance, from first note to last, from first verse to final verse, the best vocals on one album. We're talking the kind of performance that you feel everything, the anguish...

Mindslave - Secular Indulgence great melodic prog

Thanks to Andy Read for turning me onto these guys from Argentina. I think even he discovered them by chance, and they're a cool prog rock band with some really nice melodies and a smooth singer. NOt sure how to compare them, but I think a little Magic Pie, some newer, proggy rock Opeth and a...

    Mindslave - Secular Indulgence

Based on a rec from the pmrising board I discovered a pretty badass band from Argentina. I suppose the closest comparison is Need, but a little bit lighter. They are equal parts proggy, jazzy, catchy and nifty. Really impressed with all the little touches they throw in, modern guitars with...

    Cyrenic - Metaphor

I'd mentioned these guys last year, and they have a new one out on June 14. This isn't metal or prog, just some emotional modern rock with powerful lyrics and emotive vocals. I think there might actually one of two people on here who like them aside form me, so here ya go...

    Fates Warning live unplugged

I'm a sucker for prog bands doing the acoustic thing so this really caught my ear. I don't know that I've seen this posted anywhere so here is Firefly unplugged. Also, some of you can confirm this, but I think I saw Jim Matheos almost smile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NrCTIQ64F8

Sell or trade list March 2014

I just discovered we have a UM forum for this. Kinda figured that went away a long time ago, didn't know anyone still traded discs. Maybe they don't and I'm just living in the past. Anyway, I wanted to throw these up here on a forum where it would do the most good before I even think about...

    Anubis Gate - wow...facepalm

Up until this very evening I had never heard them. I always figured they were a generic power metal band based on the name alone. I was very, very wrong. This is quite proggy, riffy and classy. I've sampled enough tunes on youtube to know I want to grab these. I saw some ridiculous...
