So, I've got this idea...

If I understand correctly, you can take a recorded source, a DI source of it (say like a raw preamp signal and a recorded guitar cab from the same performance) and make an impulse out of it. Right?

So, by theory, could you bounce down some snare/tom/kick hits out of Superior 2, take the close mic'd ones and the room mic'd ones, and create an impulse out of that?

I would KILL for an impulse of the rooms they used using the mics they did!

Theorically yes.
But you should consider that to have the most accurate room sound, you should use the same mic for both close and room recording...
If the mics used are different, you're gonna capture the eq differences (that makes the close mic sound like the room mic) among the reverb...
I suggest you to use a gate to have the close mic sound as short/dry as possible...

Brilliant idea btw...

no you can not

you can only make an EQ curve to match your source

impulse is making by passing a Sine wave (with changing pitch) through your gear - or in the room. but not by matching... sorry
