He had neck/back surgery. My understanding it was a degenerative condition and he has nerve damage. Essentially he can't play drums any longer.

Phil Collins was great in the Brand X days...saw Genesis on the Seconds Out tour...Phil Collins, Bill Bruford and Chester Thompson...all three were phenomenal.
