Top 5:
1) Threshold - March of Progress
2) Headspace - I Am Anonymous
3) Thank You Scientist - Maps of Non-Existent Places
4) Speaking To Stones - Elements
5) OSI - Fire Make Thunder

Threshold takes the top spot for me because, besides being my favorite band, after a five year gap since their last album, they came back strong with yet another killer release. While Mac's departure and passing will always be sad, Damien's return to the band is welcome and he's singing better than ever.

Honorable Mentions:
Kamelot - Silverthorn
Distorted Harmony - Utopia
In The Silence - A Fair Dream Gone Mad
Flying Colors - s/t
The Tea Party - Live From Australia

Wow...this is a tough one for me, this year. Not too many stand outs. The only ones that come to mind are :

1. Between the Buried and Me - Parallax 2 (absolutely stunning cd)
2. Spawn of Possession - incurso
3. Teramaze - anhedonia

1) Anathema- Weather Systems
2) Big Big Train- English Electric Part 1
3) Lord of Mushrooms- Perspectives
4) RPWL- Beyond Man and Time
5) Sylvan- Sceneries

my top 5 for this year are::kickass:
1- Headspace - I am anonymous
2- Big Big Train - English electric
3- Teramaze - Anhedonia
4- District 97 - trouble with machines
5- Izz - The crush of night

Honorable mention to Beardish and Threshold.

In no particular order, my top 5 for this year would be:

Headspace - I Am Anonymous
OSI - Fire Make Thunder
Katatonia - Dead End Kings
Anathema - Weather Systems
RPWL - Beyond Man and Time

Honorable mentions: The Aristocrats (both releases), Led Zeppelin Celebration Day, Marco Sfogli reMarcoble, Marillion Sounds That Can't Be made

Most of my buys were older stuff. Two great ones for 2012 --

Anglagard - Viljans Oga
Ornithos - La Trasfigurazione

Even though the next two were reissues, they were essentially new in that they were rare to begin with and mostly unavailable for many years. Great stuff :

Hermann Szobel - Szobel
Het Pandora Ensemble - Het Pandora Ensemble III

Hope I haven't gone too far off topic for you mw. :)

no, not at all;
but if I dont set a number, some people would list everything they bought.
I do think also, that it helps all of us to see what each of us considers Quality
and why

you might look at someone's list and say"I've never heard that; think I'll try it out".

I think in some cases it also speaks to our varied tastes. Like raptured saying "not too many stand outs" this year. I've seen other people make similar statements, whereas for me there were quite a lot of excellent releases this year (hence my addition of honorable mentions). I think I've bought more music this year than in the previous two years combined.

1) Steve Hackett - Genesis Revisited II
2) Headspace - I Am Anonymous
3) Hemina - Synthetic
4) In The Silence - A Fair Dream Gone Mad
5) Kompendium - Beneath The Waves

Pigeon Toe - The First Perception
Beardfish - The Void
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pandora's Pinata
Morglbl - Brutal Romance
El Doom and the Born Electric - S/T
Anglagard - Viljans Oga
Marching Mind - Sickness and the Theory
Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I
Ohmphrey - Posthaste
Psycho Praxis - Echoes from the Deep
In the Silence - A fair Dream Gone Mad

Sorry about the total....

By the way, the Headspace album was a mindblowing release. Really kicked my ass for a few months. I wasn't expecting this at all. Just bought it because Jens Bogren mixed it. I love what he has done with Katatonia Night is the New Day and Static Impulse.

My god...I completely forgot about Teramaze....thanks Blass. :)
I will edit my reply.

1) Anathema - Weather Systems

2) Sylvan - Sceneries

3) Steve Hackett - Genesis Revisited II

4) Silhouette - Across The Rubicon

5) Gazpacho - March Of Ghosts

1. Suspyre - Suspyre
2. Kamelot - Silverthorn
3. Dreamscape - Everlight
4. Mechanical Organic - This Global Hive Part 1

Tough year for me too. I could only come up with 4 which I really thought stood out.

Suspyre came out of nowhere and kicked my a**. They turned up the prog and lost the Symphony X worship. This ruled my player for months.

WOW...no love for Fontanelle or Diagonal...my top albums for 2012.

I have both of these but have yet to listen. Of the 2012 releases I've heard (in no particular order other than alphabetical):

Marillion - Sounds That Can't Be Made
Nine Stones Close - One Eye On The Sunrise
SBB - SBB
Sylvan - Sceneries
Trioscapes - Separate Realities

I never list our own releases.

1. Fontanelle - Vitamin F
2. Diagonal - The Second Mechanism
3. Anglagard - Viljans Oga
4. Trioscapes - Separate Realities
5. Headspace - I Am Anonymous
