Damageplan

I heard "Breathing New Life" and thought it sounded like decent Pantera. Not horrible, but not great. Just decent.

I havent heard the track but I would assume it's going to sound a lot like
Pantera because of Dime and Vinnie. A Zebra can't change his stripes.
The back and forth trash talking between the brothers and Phil is amusing
but it's getting old. Its just another 'he said, she said' thing and that's kind
of weak. Kinda wears on Pantera a little. I havent heard a peep out of
Rex Brown about the whole thing which is good. Phil does have a tendency
to go on and on about how great he is and I can't take much of it very
seriously but it is funny and it reminds of the 'old' Dave Mustaine. Cocky,
Arrogant, amusing, funny as hell. I think Metal needs that kind of personality
somewhat. Everybody loving each other and kissing each other's asses
all the time gets to be dull and phony-feeling. The Friendly-rivalry spirit
seems missing now. Maybe it's just me and I am wrong. There's a lot of
bad metal out there in recent times and at least Phil's going around saying
his is better. There's some good SJR out there, but Phil's voice sounds flat
and drained. People say he's still wasted and using and drunk all the time
and that cant be good for his voice on record. IMO, his vocals sound
really good on Far Beyond and the first Down record. I didnt like his vocal
sound on Trendkill, but I loved "Suicide Note Pt1" "10's" "Floods" "Drag The
Waters" "War Nerve" and "13 Steps to Nowhere" ....There's no question
Phil wants to be brutal and heavy but I think,IMO, he's killing his voice
on his drinking and drugging. I don't think Vinnie and Dime will be all that
successful with Damageplan. IMO,they should have gotten someone like
Ripper Owens instead. Someone who can hit high and do some fairly low
stuff....like the new singer for Imagika.

Jesus Christ, Officer Nice, I saw SuperJoint Ritual last month in SJ, and I couldn't agree more about Phil. One arrogant mother fucker he was. It got over the top with all the cursing, political jabs, how SJR is the 'most fuckin' brutal, fuckin' heaviest, mother fuckin' band in the whole fuckin' world right fuckin' now.' Although for the most part the metal was pretty cool, and a surging pit that was the biggest I've seen in quite a while.

One the flip side, there were some pretty fine metal chicks 'sent to the bus' following the show -- they sure as shit weren't heading to the House of Insania, that's for damn sure. Arrogance hath its privileges, don't it?

I did see the Damageplan video BTW, and thought it was pretty good...

Sounds like Phil is definitely using. He ranted like that on the Pantera
Trendkill tour when he was f'd up on smack and booze. I dont mind,
it makes for good frontman banter. Phil did the same shit on the Trendkill
tour "right here in Metallicas backyard who's the heaviest the most brutal
heavy no selling out blah blah blah" ...You're in Scrotumento, you must
have seen that back in 96. You're definitely right on with your post.
I notice you use the same the expressions as me- 'sure as shit' -I love
that one. I bet that pit was kick-ass surging. For SJR yeah I believe it.
Arrogance has its privileges. Indeed. I like your sig. that's pretty cool.
This post was worth reps. The DP vid was good? I'll have to check it out.
