Guitar Player's Thread

Put a new guitar on layaway today at my work. I should have it in a few weeks or so. Huge discounts from working at music stores ftw.

I don't play anything djent-related at all, I actually really like the clean tones and the clarity of it more than anything else. I tried a few other brands as well including a few of the $2,000+ Ibanez 8 strings and didn't care for them. This guitar had a much smoother neck and way better tone, at least to my ears. Very excited to bring it home soon.

:lol: And the ironic part about it is that you wanted one before I was even thinking about it at all. I honestly wouldn't be getting it though if it weren't for my discount so that's the only reason I'm getting my hands on it so soon lol.

I started messing around with recording a little bit this morning after having acquired a bunch of new gear. Let me know what you guys think.

Gear used: Dean RC8X - Boss DD3 - Peavey 6505+ - Marshall 1960 Lead Cab - SM57 mic - PreSonus AudioBox 22VSL - Studio One in that order.

Jackson RR24 with BK Painkiller on Swimming Into Black main riff.

Oh uh... I put it aiming toward the middle of the cone with the mic at about a 30 degree angle with the tip of the mic about 2 inches from the mesh of the cab. Need to find another day to really concentrate on getting some better quality stuff up and experiment a little more :p

Put that sucker right up against the mesh

A good guitar tone might sound a bit harsh on its own but great with the other instruments especially bass.

I'll re-record some of the stuff on friday when I'm off next. Recording here is annoying because I have to find a time of day that people aren't home so I don't drive them insane with my amp lol.

To quote Muffin from fucking forever ago (substituting 8 for 7);

the phrase less is more is made for people with small penises

8 strings is king

only thing I missed and put in a subsequent email was multiscale, 26-29"

yeeeep

You must put up exactly 1,000 videos and soundclips and all sorts of other wheedly-dee, chugga-dun-dun, and what not of the guitar when you get it.

hahahahahaha I'm planning on an epic NGD vid with lots of humour and excitement with no small amount of sound testing. There won't really be any chug or djenty stuff because I find it boring to play hahaha, it'll more the kind of proggy stuff I usually do, with a bunch of death-thrashy riffs I have lying around and some shredding. Obligatory clean tapping too. Don't really want it to djent, just more room to riff and lead with. Hence why I want a lot of tension on the low E (.082 gauge string at 29") so it feels like an actual guitar string to riff and play chords on as opposed to just being a 7-string with a nickel-plated spaghetti noodle added on for shits and giggles :lol:
