I want to get more into some proper thrash metal but I know nothing about the genre really.

I want to know some essential bands/albums to check out, because the list I've heard is utterly pitiful. I thought of chcking out stuff like kreator, Destruction, Testament, Exodus...etc.

Please help!

Some people I know worship metallica, and while I do enjoy their older albums occasionally I know there's much better stuff out there that needs to be checked out.

If you want proper old school thrash check out these records:

Testament - The Legacy
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Exodus - Bonded By Blood
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill
Metallica - Master Of Puppets
Death Angel - Ultra Violence

Dont forget Dark Angel- Darkness Descends
Sepultura BEneath, Arise, Schizo
Slayers first 4
Megadeths first 4
Well ill stop, i think everything has been named already.

Sodom - In the Sign of Evil
Sodom - Agent Orange
Sodom - Persecution Mania

All of these as well as:
Heathen - Breaking the silence

Sadus - Illusions
Possessed - Seven Churches (Mandatory death metal as well)
Anacrusis - Suffering Hour
Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
Megadeth - Peace sells....but who's buying?

add these:
Desruction - Sentence of Death, Infernal Overkill, Mad Butcher and more. The Antichrist is bloody excellent too to judge from the two tracks I have heard.
Toxic Holocaust - Evil Never Dies A new release by a new band but it is fucking excellent.

Some albums that haven´t been mentioned yet:

Coroner - R.I.P.
Coroner - No More Color
Znowhite - Act Of God
Mekong Delta - Mekong Delta
Mekong Delta - The Music Of Erich Zann

Voivod - Killing Technology
Nuclear Assault - Game Over
Forbidden - Forbidden Evil
Testament - Live At Eindhoven
Hexenhaus - A Tribute To Insanity

Something very technical:
Watchtower - Control And Resistance
Sieges Even - Life Cycle

As for Annihilator, I only have got there first two albums, of which I would recommend "Alice In Hell".

Other good thrash bands

I'm not a fan, that's all. I think they're overrated, and I don't really like them because I'm not really a thrash fan, except Darkness Descends, and some others.

the new exodus might be a good starting point, its catchy as all hell and manages to stay completely true to the genre, which is a big deal after this long. much better than testament-the gathering. add big beefy modern production and youve got a winner.
