Obligatory Mid-Year Highlights Thread

New Maiden album was very disappointing for me. Don't know if I mentioned it here, but what they really need is a producer who dares to speak out to them and say enough is enough! Long songs are not automatically better! The songs are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long, soooo many utterly useless, boring and directionless parts. The only album I really enjoyed since Bruce rejoined is A Matter of Life and Death, it's got good melodies that stick and a somehow inspired and passionate delivery. Brave New World has got its moments too I admit.

I have to agree with @MadTinus for this. Songs are too long. It's like they are not cohesive. I listened to the album twice when it came out and I have actually forgot all about it until I read this post

The last good Iron Maiden album was also A Matter of Life and Death.

My opinion is the polar opposite of that, actually. I think that AMOLAD was a rather weak album and I think the 4 longest songs on the Maiden album are genuinely the best.

Empire of the clouds > Red and the Black > If Eternity should fail > Book of Souls, to be precise.

Not changing my list, but a few things I've discovered recently from other year-end lists that I've been digging:

Abominor - Opus: Decay, Antiversum - Total Vacuum, Julien Baker - Sprained Ankle, Botanist - EP2: Hammer of Botany, Delphine Dora & Sophie Cooper - Distance Future, Stara Rzeka - Zamknęły się oczy ziemi

Also, Krallice just released an EP today. Excited to give that a listen.

Edit: Krallice EP, Hyperion, is excellent. (Despite being released this year, the notes say it was recorded in 2013, which makes sense given how well it segues between Years Past Matter and Ygg Huur.)

(Though, unlike the others, I am genuinely curious.)

I had ordered the artbox edition of 孤雁 GU YAN a few months ago and it arrived this week. (Shipped from China.) Both the album and the design were well worth the wait.

Reactions: winters epilogue
Based on the placement of Kendrick, Pinkish Black, and Krallice, I'd say yes he is. :tickled:

(Good list, @PhlegethonVeins. As always, there's plenty of stuff I need to check out. Thanks! Also, you liked Graveward that much, eh? Maybe it was just my mood the few times it's been on, but I couldn't get into it nearly as much as the past few Sigh albums.)

At first I felt the same way. However, after more spins I fell in love. I mean, it has a track where I can legitimately say I can envision people swing dancing to it, WITHOUT it sounding forced. And I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's frickin awesome.

FUCK, I forgot to put in The Telescopes - Hidden Fields
