Arcturus cancel ProgPower USA; Replacement Announced

^That post.

I love Ihsahn's solo stuff as much as I do Emperor, and Arcturus, outside of The Sham Mirrors has largely been a novelty for me.

With that being said:

Look, folks complain a lot on web sites, and while I'm about to a little, it only represents a small piece of how I feel about PP. Last year was my first year, but I have heard about it almost nonstop for years from my friend that has been since PP II. I loved it! I watched every band including the special 7th Wonder show (which was probably the highlight of the whole thing!). My problem was that with so many bands after traveling to the show I was dog tired by the time the headliners would play. It was too much. Now you have added Darkwater even though this isn't the special band you were after. Now Arcturus is out and you replace them? You could have been back to the original number.

All that being said, I think this year's lineup is awesome. Dream Evil is my pick to own the show.

Dude, are you fucking serious?

I'm dog-tired too when the headliners get on, but if there's one occasion of the year where toughing it out to the end is worth it, it's ProgPower weekend.
I am worried about Therion's ability to retain crowd attention during their second hour. But one of those who will be there until the last note rings out is me.

um...wow
glad you "loved it!" but boo to you for the whinge-factor. those seats? you can sit in them.
PP isn't about "tired"...it's about experiencing
a lot of people were right keen on Arcturus - i was interested, myself - and their half-assed "reason" was a kick in the teeth to Glenn and the fans
this replacement is freaking amazing!

if you find you need to nap...um...you have a room, yeah? or you can fall asleep in your seat.

(opinions expressed herein are solely those of Reverend Su...if you wish to discuss further, by all means, let's do so)

Truer words were never spoken, Su and I will still be standing (stumbling?) at 7am in the Artmore Courtyard, you're welcome to join us! Metal up! :kickass:

Felt that way with Primal Fear. Long day traveling and then 3 lackluster opening bands. It was a minor miracle getting up in time to see Cage.

A couple things. First, like Milt said, are you serious? Glenn got an extra band and due to Arcutrus bowing out, he should just keep it that way? That would be a lot of money lost, not to mention Arcturus were one of the main attractions of the fest that will get people there that usually don't go. So, what does he do? He gets someone who has a similar fanbase, who may very well bring in MORE people to the show. Plus, I always appreciate the oddball pick and not having one this year would be a damn shame.

Secondly, I don't understand you people that complain because the fest is too long/tiring. I just don't. Maybe take a breather during the show? Sit down instead of standing on the floor? Get a drink at the bar? Glenn ups the ante by bringing in a lot of quality bands and you're complaining that it's too long? What about those European festivals? I guess they should cut down too because it's too much for the fans, huh? Oy vey.

hells yeah! a few of us party-hearty folks (over the age of 35, most of us!) were up in the early AM and stayed...went to the WHOLE fest and were up...until the early AM ;)
if you can't hang with the big kids...

@Ole Roomate -
in all seriousness, Glenn has had to replace a "drawing power" band with another "drawing power" act...you were going to be at the fest anyway, right? so what's the issue - the length hasn't changed, and as i said before - you can sit down, take a wander, have a nap...there are plenty of things to do if you aren't interested in whoever is on stage at a given point.
just sayin...

Wow.....saying "too many bands at Progpower" to me is just like saying "Please Megan Fox,take your adorable sexy body and go somewhere else cause I'm tired of you even though I only see you 3 or 4 days a year".
I too get tired but as soon as the next kick-ass band starts playing my adrenaline kicks back in!!!!

Megan Fox is an overrated ho-bag. (There, I said it. You can blast me again. )

While I can understand the sentiment (I'm pretty dead by the end of ProgPower), nothing requires you to be there for the whole thing. If you need to take a break to make it through, do so.
