Anyone here a blu ray lover?

the dark knight looks ridiculous, the IMAX shot stuff is like looking through a window out over gotham city, it's stunning....

all hail blu-ray! now all we need is spielbergs back catalogue...

Im a big fan! not just blu ray but all HD in general. I got Lost Season 4 on blu ray and it looks incredible. Got "The Thing" also , hehe. The catalogue is pretty small, but I guess with time we'll be getting all the classics on this format. I hope they release "Aliens" soon.

Ive not got a blu ray player, not seen many blu ray movies either so cant say ive seen the difference but if its as gud as u say i wud buy one to watch aliens on it, best film ever

Blu Ray is to DVD what remasters are to Megadeth albums - essentially rather pointless unless you like it slightly cleaner.

Too expensive for me really, never cared much for Blu Ray and I doubt I ever will.

I FUCKING LOVE IT.

I doubt aliens would get a decent transfer to blu ray, the original negative is very very grainy, even james cameron has said he would re-shoot it if he could and use a different film stock. It will probably look like the predator blu ray..... not good.

but ALIEN on the other hand would look beautiful.

Way too fucking expensive for me, and risky at that. Remember "HD-DVDs"?

Didn't think so.

My housemate reckoned HD dvds were going to be the next big thing and that blu-ray was going to fizzle out because the porn industry was going to use HD dvd. That was a bit wrong.

HD-DVD only failed because most of the big studios backed blu-ray exclusively, it was Toshibas exclusive brand, blu-ray belongs to sony.... and because most of the big studios put all their efforts into blu-ray, hd-dvd saw not that many priority releases, it had some good ones, but not as many as blu-ray...

so toshiba had to scrap all their hd-dvd stuff, and the film companies that signed with hd-dvd, like paramount, have re-signed with blu-ray, putting a lot of their releases back as most of spielbergs back catalogue was done by paramount which is why we've only seen 2 or 3 of his films hitting blu-ray...

Blu ray is just really one of those things for people who are into it... if you're not into geekily high levels of picture and audio quality then you're better off saving your money, as thats what it's for, but for the people like myself and others who are well into that kinda thing, its bloody exciting!!

Its fair play really, although I personally think its only worth having blu-ray if you have a badass surround sound system and a massive HD TV. If you just have a small crappy telly then theres no point, right? or am I stating the obvious again?

......:(

Yeah of course the sound is improved too. Some people are starting to use blu-ray discs for audio already. Its basically remixed and remastered (for already existing music etc) in 5.1 surround with no pictures to go with it.
