ANTHRAX
COVERED IN SCARS

RENT VEIL
DREAM THEATER
STYX
KANSAS
HAMMERFALL
DELAIN
OCEANS OF SADNESS
STORMWARRIOR
TAROT
HAZMAT
LIVING SACRIFICE
D.R.I.
AWAKE THE SUFFERING

I only went to about 8 gigs myself this year.
My favorite performances were:
IRON MAIDEN
PENTAGRAM
URIAH HEEP
ORPHANED LAND
KATATONIA
BLIND GUARDIAN
HIGH SPIRITS

Have seen 24 concerts so far this year (counting ProgPower as one).
Some of my favorites bands included:

Anvil
Blue Oyster Cult
Styx
Cage
Lillian Axe
Ratt
Scorpions
Exodus
Holy Grail
Overkill
Accept

Haven't seen Blind Guardian yet, but I'm thinking it's going to be great.

I always forget a bunch of shows I've seen, but....

Celldweller
Faith and the Muse
Accept
Kamelot
Tyr
Katatonia / Orphaned Land
Cynic (edited in, thanks A.S. :))

(a few others I'm forgetting....)

Oh.......to my surprise, Dimmu Borgir

best shows this year:

Kreator / Voivod / Nachtmystium / Evile / Lazarus A.D.

Forbidden / Evile / Gama Bomb / Bonded By Blood

High Spirits / Zuul

great live acts I saw:

Raven
Deceased
Holy Grail

Barely went to any shows this year, but Alice In Chains/Deftones/Mastodon was probably my favorite of the year followed closely by Roger Waters/The Wall Live. Cynic/Intronaut was pretty badass too.

But yeah, I think the award for best live band for me overall is tied between AIC and Mastodon. "Blood and Thunder" is still to this day one of the most crushing songs ever written and AIC was also really amazing, with a phenomenal stage show. Roger was really cool, but ultimately, and I know I'm never going to see the end of this, but I felt it was too gimicky. In trying to re-create the movie, alot of the magic of the atmosphere of The Wall was lost and I thought the theatrics were cool and well thought out, but at sometimes unnecessary. That said, it was still a killer experience.

Here are my favorite concert sets from 2010, in order:

1. Devin Townsend
2. Tool
3. Kamelot
4. Leprous
5. Korn
6. TesseracT
7. Nevermore
8. Katatonia / StS / Orphaned Land (this one would've been much better but the venue was so small and I felt like I was being shoved into an oven)

Edit: Please tell me I'm not the ONLY one who saw Tool this year...

Edit x2: Agalloch will be added to this list on December 22nd lol

My metal experiences this year were limited within the 3-days I spent at Tuska Festival in the beginnign of July. It was all pure bliss because of the best roster ever in the festival's history, IMO.
(Too bad next year they have to move away from the Kaisaniemi Park in the heart of Helsinki, even though it'll be only 5 mins away but the area will be rough; an asphalt field surrounded by industry buildings and concrete walls instead of gravel and grass surrounded by trees. Bleh!)

Anyways, at least these bands were well worth the "3-day marathon of beer and bullshit 2010" :

Barren Earth ( !!! )
Testament (oldies & goodies, launched a helluva pit in front of the stage which wasn't good for us "oldtimers")
Tarot (never fail)
Swallow The Sun ( !!! )
Satyricon (wow!)
Ihsahn (another wow!)
Devin Townsend – Ziltoid The Omniscient (exclusive show!)
Hypocrisy (the dark side of Peter Tätgren!)
Devin Townsend Project (Devin's other side)
Kamelot (hell yeah)
Bloodbath (w/ Michael Åkerfeldt)
Nevermore ( !!! )
Finntroll (polka fun!!!)
Cannibal Corpse (another classic)
Nile (pharao metal!)
Megadeth (many times seen but still works)

.

oh jesus...
Saw a lot of shows this year. Probably the last year where I'll go to 50+ for the rest of my life.

Best of the best:
Spewtilator
Destroyer 666
Primate (Black Flag cover set)
Portal
Watain
Overkill
Ceremony
AUTOPSY
Deftones
Bane

probably forgetting a bunch

Best shows oh well:

Tarot
Seventh Wonder
Kamelot

Seeing Blind Guardian/Seven Kingdoms on Saturday

Didn't go to many shows this year, but here goes...

1. Y&T- consistently brilliant live! Get well soon Phil!
2. Rodrigo Y Gabriela
3. Robert Cray
4. Stormwarrior & Tyr at PP
5. Overkill/Forbidden/Evile/Gama Bomb/Bonded By Blood

Honorable mention to Icarus Witch, who opened for Y&T & were great each night!

My favorite was Pentagram, then Overkill. I missed a lot of good stuff this year. Of those shows I did go to, all were metal shows, which is not always the case, but happened to turn out that way. I'll hit up a hardcore show next weekend which I expect to be a good time, and that'll be it for 2010.
