Hit Parader's Top 100 vocalist

I don't have time to comment on all of them, but...

29. Gene Simmons
44. Marilyn Manson

I love MM, but a great singer, he ain't. Ditto Gene. WTF are JLT, Ann Wilson, and Ray Gillen (among many others) doing behind them? Some of these people are merely adequate, and some of them are truly great vocalists. I think HP may have "performer" and "vocalist" mixed up a wee bit... but then again, that assumes a logic to their rankings that probably doesn't exist. :p

I don't have time to comment on all of them, but...

Hey look...it's that person who is married to one of my personal favorite metal vocalists.

Anyway, one name I am surprised to see excluded on this list is Mike Patton. Considering Hit Parader's VH1 approach to the hard rock/metal genre, I have to assume that they simply forgot him. After all, they listed every two-bit "where are they now?" vocalist that had a commercial hit. I'm not a huge fan of FNM, but I can at least acknowledge them as having more substance than most of the bozos featured on this list.

Wes Scantlin....(steam comes out of my ears at having to be reminded of Pile of Crapp's existence)

Good call on the Mike Patton. Strange that he was excluded, but would definitely be very high on my list.

Also forgotten: Glenn Danzig. Again, not a big fan, but he deserves to be on here more than some of these flash in the pans, for his longevity if for nothing else.

He's the singer of Accept and the solo work of U.D.O.
The man is awesome and I would love to see him at a ProgPower. A couple years ago when I last went to one I found when I talked to people about being there you either got a "who?" a "awesome!" or some inane BS about his music not being sophisticated enough or something.
41. Udo Dirkschneider - Okay really, WHO?

And where the hell is Ralf Scheepers???

Also, I change my mind, King Diamond is the worst on the list. I revisited his catalog and was on the floor laughing harder than I have in weeks. That fact that he is taken seriously is beyond me.

Damn...so much hate for Kurt Cobain!!! I knew he wouldn't get rave reviews from this board, but I didn't expect all the trashing! To me, you don't get much more emotion from a singer than this. That unplugged in NYC is a classic album in my eyes if only for the last song "Where Did You Sleep Last Night".

I also get tired of the "he killed metal" argument (and its variations). Nobody FORCED anyone to listen to his music. It spoke to large numbers of people and connected with them on a level that Poison, Warrant, Motley Crue, and Dokken weren't reaching.

I wouldn't use him to demonstrate to someone perfect vocal technique, but i do think there is a place on this list for raw, natural, emotion and delivery. For that I'd have to place him top 10.

I'm ready for my verbal lashings now. :heh:

Too bad, he was at the forefront of the decline of metal, guilt by association.
Nirvana also got radio overkill, so actually people WERE forced to listen to it (although they could just change the station and maybe listen to some Pearl Jam :puke: ). It was the start of the "we have no talent" movement that is still around on radio today. How nice of Mr. heroin head to leave his wife and kid too. Sorry, no sympathy here. Removing his face with a shotgun was Kurt's BEST & LAST performance. I have NOTHING against the people that liked that stuff, but I've always been about talent, in some way, shape, or form, with music, and it's strictly MOFO that Nirvana posessed NONE of those qualities, espcially Kurt "That's my brains" Cobain.

J-Dubya

This list was posted over at PMX:2 and I was inspired by Teddy M's post in that thread (awesome stuff). It's a total farce as Hit Parader is nothing but shit meant to sell, but let's move beyond that.
Instead of ranking your top vocalists (as that has been done to death) or saying how stupid the rankings are, simply comment on those in the list below. Forget being politically correct or trying to defend their place in history. If you think they suck, say it.

big high-five to Glenn for the Eddie Vedder love, he's one of the best vocalists in all of rock

Freddie Mercury is the greatest vocalist of all time in any genre.

Who can even remotely take this list serious when a magazine lists Mick Jagger (among shitloads of others) a METAL singer.

Its pure commercialized garbage. Nuff said.
