QUEENSRŸCHE - Condition Hüman

One spin through, and a BIG two thumbs up to this disc. It sounds similar to the last album, but a LOT more "complete". The last album sounded too much like songs weren't fully fleshed out before they raced it out to compete with Tate. This one sounds like they spent a lot more time on the songwriting, and it really shows.

It's not as heavy as I expected either. The second half of the disc especially has a lot of more mid-tempo stuff, even though it still has a dark tone to it. Very, very pleased with this release.

Totally agree with the above. I love the moodier stuff on the back end. Todd sounds just flawless and is putting his stamp on the band. I'm so happy for him to find true success after all his years of trying. A serious band gave him a chance, and he isn't looking back. It couldn't be a better fit for both.

I saw them in San Diego earlier this week and they were amazing. Todd sounded great and the band look like they were having fun. Only complaint is that they were the only band on the bill and they played less than 90 minutes.

On first spins, I really thought it would stand up with Promised Land era, but the more I listen the less enthralled I am. I like it, but I don't think it's quite there yet. Might be the best we can hope for at this stage, and I'm okay with that. An enjoyable listen, but not a favorite.

To that I say, NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm all for the band adding songs from "Promised Land" into their live sets, but anything beyond that from the Tate years is unnecessary.

Now that my complaint is out of the way, I'm digging "Condition Human" a lot. I think the songwriting is right on par with that of the previous album, and the sonic quality is definitely better. Todd has a perfect balance between showing some Tate-isms and throwing in his own flavor. My only complaint is that the lead guitar tones are lacking a certain punch.

Stay metal. Never rust.

I knew when I heard the 1st couple of songs that this release had POTENTIAL.
What I didn't expect is how good alot of these songs are!
The 1st three songs are very strong, with memorable choruses and big, Queensryche guitar sounds. But once we arrive at "Selfish Lives", I realize that this cd fits somewhere between "Operation: Mindcrime" and "Empire", automatically one of their 5 best. "selfish Lives" may be one of my favorite songs in a long time by this band.
The only flaw I see is too many mid-tempo songs, bogging down the cd somewhere between tracks 9-12 for a bit. Listenable but not great.

One a scale of 1-10 I would rate this at a solid 8.5.
Ranking alongside the discography, I'd go with;
1. Rage For Order
2. Operation: Mindcrime
3. The Warning
4. Condition Human
5. Empire

Yeah this one just gets better the more you hear it, definitely requires repeated listens to "get it" but awesome, surely the best they've done in over 20 years and like you, I'd put it up there with their late '80s early '90s material, excellent...

I don't have the patience to have to listen to something 6 or 7 times before it grows on me. QR was my favorite band in the 80s, even had a license plate on my car that proclaimed that. I'm just REALLY glad I didn't get that QR tattoo I came very close to getting. If you like prog metal, Vanden Plas' new album came out today, it only requires one listen to fall in love with it, not this 'it has to grow on you' stuff. I've seen QR probably 10 or 12 times live, going all the way back to the Warning tour (when they opened for Dio), but I'm done with them. I really like Todd, I was a big fan of Crimson Glory in the 80s as well, but QR's writing today, and for a very long time, is just crap. I was at the Boston Museum of Science for their record release party for Hear in the now Frontier. It was in the planetarium and completely dark and I was with my friend (both of us huge ryche fans) and I remember we were tearing the album apart. After the album was over, the lights came on, and I was totally mortified to see that Tate and Degarmo were sitting immediately behind us listening to every word we said. Can't go asking for a picture or autograph after that :p

I agree with you robr. As I said a while back in this thread that my initial listens weren't positive, now I gave it a few more listens and yeah, this album is really average.

I think it's excellent ... actually it's one of the best discs I've heard this year. I like the S/T as well, but this disc tops it. I never thought Queensryche would be viable again, but Todd L. has really helped light a spark under these guys.
