Your Top Ten Of 2004

As of the date I'm posting this (12/12), I'm figuring that there won't be too many more good releases coming out in the next 18 days. So now is a good time to post what you guys thought were the best things you've heard in 2004. Mine are:

10. Saxon "Lionheart"
9. Damned Nation "Sign Of Madness"
8. Blaze "Blood And Belief"
7. Jorn Lande "Out To Every Nation"
6. War & Peace "The Walls Have Eyes"
5. Dio "Master Of The Moon"
4. Jon Oliva's Pain "Tage Mahal"
3. Brave "Passages" (EP)
2. Magnitude 9 "Decoding The Soul"

1. Silent Force "Worlds Apart"

This should be the final order... from 1 to 10...

Angra - Temple of Shadows
Orphaned Land - Mabool
Evergrey - The Inner Circle
Pain of Salvation - 12:5
Nightwish - Once
Lamb of God - Ashes of the Awake
Edguy - Hellfire Club
Pain of Salvation - Be
Shadows Fall - The war Within
Jorn Lande - Out to Every Nation

Hmm, that's a tough one. Here's what I'm probably thinking.

1) Nightwish - Once
2) Edguy - Hellfire Club
3) Chris Caffery - Faces/GDWAR (Big surprise for me - album really grows)
4) Dionysus - Anima Mundi (Hope to see them at PP!)
5) Sonata Arctica - Reckoning Night
6) Ayreon - The Human Equation
7) Time Requiem - The Inner Circle of Reality
8) Mercenary - 11 Dreams

Hmm, that's the big ones I can think of. Notable mentions go out to Dragonland - Starfall (Even though I don't think the album was as great as all the hype before its release led it to be). Another goes to the new Silent Force. A shout out to Evergrey's latest, and also Nostradameus's Hellbound.

Was a good year metal wise.

2005 should kill. New Edguy hopefully, new Gamma Ray (*cheers*), new Space Odyssey, Secret Sphere, At Vance, Hammerfall, Brazen Abbot, Dark Moor, Kamelot...the list keeps going.

Can't wait!

:D

Blaze - Blood and Belief
Symphorce - Twice Second
Suffocation - Souls to Deny
Vintersorg - The Focusing Blur
Edguy - Hellfire Club
Into Eternity - Buried in Oblivion
Iced Earth - The Glorious Burden
Wuthering Heights - Far From the Madding Crowd
Danzig - Circle of Snakes
Borknagar - Epic

with certain exceptions its been a great year for metal :)

1. Nightwish - Once
2. Into Eternity - Buried In Oblivion
3. Edguy - Hellfire Club
4. Evergrey - The Inner Circle
5. In Flames - Soundtrack To Your Escape
6. Asperity - The Final Demand
7. Angra - Temple Of Shadows
8. Nocturnal Rites - New World Messiah
9. Evil Masquerade - Welcome To The Show

In no particular order, my ten favorite metal CDs of 2004.

Exodus, Tempo of the Damned. Proof that thrash does indeed still exist. Enough riffs to fill 4 discs of a lesser artist.

Nightwish, Once. Decidely darker CD with sweeping arrangements that never get cheesy. Big kudos to extra vocals by bassist Marco Hietala. And Tarja is smoking!

Iron Savior, Battering Ram. Relentless Power Metal devoid of lyrics about fantasy creatures. These guys are masters of the pedal note.

Jag Panzer, Casting the Stones. Home grown American METAL! Hard to believe that these guys have been around for over 20 years and still maintain quality music without having to resort to the latest trends (ahem Metallica!).

Danzig, Circle of Snakes. Yeah Glenn got punked and powned earlier this year, but his new disc is a return to his dark glory of his first four. It doesn't hurt having Tommy Victor (Prong) playing guitar for you either!

Dream Evil, Book of Heavy Metal. Metal's answer to The Darkness. An unabashed glorification of all that is metal! The bonus DVD is hoot!

Iced Earth, Glorious Burden. Mostly a concept CD about the American Civil War and fronted by former vocalist of Judas Priest Tim 'Ripper' Owens. Jon Schaffer is one of the best rhtyhm guitarist in metal with a style that is a mixture of Iron Maiden with the thrash version of Metallica (damn! another dig!).

Ezra Stone, Volume 1. Yeah that's right I said it! Hey, it is my damn list, and I am damn proud of my playing on this CD! Buy it here!

Therion, Lemuria / Sirius B. Double CD of epic metal. This is what Wagner would have been writing had he lived today.

Primal Fear, Devil's Ground. I cannot say enough about this band. They were the first band that I had ever heard on the internet and my introduction to the world of metal that didn't die because Rolling Stone deemed it so, phukkers.

1. INTO ETRENITY-buried in oblivion
2. LAMB OF GOD-ashes of the wake
3. SHADOWS FALL- the war within
4. ICED EARTH- glorious burden
5. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE- end of heartache

7. MESHUGGAH- "I"
8. SLIPKNOT- vol. 3 (the subliminal verses)

RIP.... DIMEBAG........

Should we count this as 2004?? It was released in Europe in 2003 and wasn't released here in the states until the beginning of this year. I agree that this was a great release and would have included it in my list but I consider it a 2003 release. This would be my 2nd or 3rd best CD of this year. Anyway...Later! :headbang:
