ProgPower USA VIII Date

Hey guys/gals,

I have a call in to Residence Inn to see ifwe can get some rate decrease consideration since we can pretty much guarantee them full occupancy if they are closer to the rates they had last year. If I am not mistaken a few people got moved elsewhere because they were completely booked last year correct? At this rate (with their new price) they won't have squat this year from us.

I'll let you know if it works out. What price point do you all feel comfortable paying, realising that it will be a bit more than last year? I know I had paid $129 night for the "studio" I think they call it. Would $139-145 be a good target for you all?

Feedback please, thanks!
Thanks for the effort ... That target price you've mentioned would be more in line with what seems fair. $139 sounds about right.

Woohoo! I can go to PP next year! I was worried, as the dates the show normally falls on are when I will be in Japan. I can now even increase the length of my Japan visit if I want.

We booked our room at the RI again. Expensive, but the location cannot be beat.

Me: "Hi, how much for one reservation for October 3rd through the 7th, 2007"
Receptionist: "Oh, for Prog, huh?"

Even with the later weekend, they still know it's us! Maybe they're following the forum, too!

As of 5 minutes ago, the only rooms Granada have for Oct 3-7, 2007 are 1 bedroom apts (w/pull out couch) for $179/night.

Apparently all the 2 bedroom apts, and 2 bed junior suites are gone.

I am having a problem with the booking of a hotel mostly because I am not sure how close some of these hotels are. Usually I just use expedia or whatever but their booking doesnt go that far forward. So can someone help with numbers or addresses of some close ones that arent on the PP homepage?

Thanks

Ian

Ian,

If you use Travelocity, you can do an advanced search by address. Plug in Center Stage's address and it'll tell you just how far away each hotel is. Pick a random date just to get the hotel list. Once you get the list, go to the hotel's sites directly (or call) to book.

Thanks Steve I will try this.

Edit: No luck

For anyone interested, I have booked a room at Courtyard Atlanta Executive Park/Emory 1236 Executive Park Drive, Atlanta for only $89.00 a night plus free parking. Punched it up for driving directions and it's 5.4 miles or a 7 minute drive. Phone: 1-800-321-2211

Deron, I'd def be in for a range of $129-139 / nt. Like Britt, I thought the Grenada was a dump, but unlike Britt, I'm not willing to spend that much more for RI. Do what you can with a group rate, and thanks for the attempt.

Personally, I just can't stomach spending that much for a room. I can understand it if someone is having a party in their room and needs the space, but for me, hundreds of dollars a night is just ridiculous when all I'll be doing in the room is sleeping and using the bathroom. I got a room at the Residence in 2003 for $56 a night (before they knew about the existence of ProgPower), and I really cannot see spending 2 - 4 times as much for the same room. The Sheraton sometimes has decent deals through Hotwire, and has been a good hotel both times I stayed there... but even for people who want suites, you can get them easily at the Marriott Suites, which is only slightly further away than the Residence or Granada, and still well within walking distance, for like $50 - $60 less a night.

Last year, I stayed at one of the discount motels, and spent $60 a night ($30 a person, split 2 ways). That works out to $240 over the course of 4 days, as opposed to $800 for a $200 suite. It wasn't fancy or luxurious by any means, but was within walking distance, had a clean bathroom, bed, and even a refrigerator and microwave. It makes sense for someone who doesn't need a large suite, or simply wants to spend less money.

Anyway, in case anyone cares, here's a list of area hotels I compiled a couple years ago. It's basically taken from the same Google Maps listing that Deron provided above, except it includes only hotels that are less than 1 mile from the venue. The list used to be longer, but I edited it to eliminate hotels that no longer exist (such the Hampton, Fairfield, and Knights Inn).

Well this sucks it doesnt appear as if there are any suites left anywhere within walking distance.

Edit: To update this post I just got off the phone with a Marriott rep and there are no Marriott associated hotels with 2 beds left within a 2 mile distance suite or regular.

Super 8 Motel - .5 miles from CS, about a 5 minute walk - $69/night, including:

Two beds
TV WITH HBO
A SUPERSTART Breakfast
A HAIRDRYER
A CLOCK RADIO
And GUARANTEED Comfort AND Quality.

Seems like an easy decision for me, though I was sold at the CLOCK RADIO.
