Eh, there were a few people in the crowd with cameras who I know for certain had press passes. For the short photographers out there, getting great pictures from the photopit can be difficult.
Especially of the drummers. My camera does not take video, though.

We should mail him an empty "ProgPower X DVD" case with a note inside that says "F*** You, you've got it already. Don't come back."

Haha, that's a great idea! As is the "Wanted" poster.

That's in mexican pesos, it equals roughly $13.57 US
Well now I'm REALLY pissed off!!!

I'm sorry, I really LOL'd at this.

BTW, when I signed up to join you tube, it says if you knowingly post copyrighted material your account will be deleted. how can they not tell his footage is bootlegged?

In fairness, some bands DO allow audience taping of shows...hell, I'm in the middle of posting about 6 hours of perfectly legal performance video from Dragon*Con, so there's no easy way for YouTube to tell if concert footage is bootlegged. Which isn't necessarily the same thing as 'copyrighted.'

That being said, as the promoter and legal holder of the festival's video rights, Glenn has every authority to contact YouTube and have this douchebag permanently de-rezzed.

Not SOME bands, MOST bands...

Although I agree that the guy is out of line for filming it when there are rules against it at Prog Power, I think the bashing he is getting on this thread is disproportionate to the crime...
Maybe I think this way because I don't agree with the rule to begin with (It's a matter of opinion, I don't want to discuss the rule here... It's Glenn's Fest and that's it, he makes the rules).

When this cornhole started up his site I caught him putting up mp3s of my bands without asking permission. After much arguing I forced him to take them down. He wanted to buy CDs from us for his "store" but I wanted nothing to do with him. This guy is bad news.

He's all yours Lance! :D

I am proud to say that helped get a couple of bootleggers during Primal Fear's set. It sucked that I had to miss almost the whole first half, but worth it. I hate these people who can't follow these simple rules!

Like it or not, which I don't, the rule is the rule. Being that enforcing the rule deprives staff and atendee's of watching parts or all of some sets, I'd say the reaction is totally appropriate. I'm not debating the rule, but justifying the response.

BTW, he took down the Suspyre and Enchant material from PPUSA X. I think the firestorm was too much for him.

Rules are Rules, A few of my friends asked me to get footage so they could see what all I was talking about, I refused!!! Pointing out the fact of the Anti-bootlegging rule. I can see by the ersponse in this forum that there are many honest people, including myself, why does a few A-Holes have to comprimise the spirit of the festival.

My question to Glenn would be, with bands such as The Greatful Dead and Phish encouraging bootlegging, would you ever consider allowing it if a band requested it be permited during thier set?

There are several people on staff at PerfectProg..might not hurt to let them know what their fellow staff member is up to in the name of the site. And wow..dig the big 'we're official Nightmare Records people' thing on every page..quite an outfit they have there.

I didn't see any footage of the 2009 show on his youtube page so maybe he's take it down but he's still got tons of videos from Andromeda, Spheric Universe Experience and Riverside from 2008 show on pages 8-10

I have to say something.... I was the one who had this douche thrown out Thursday, and then I see that he continued to record after. When i busted him ( thanks JAX) His battery on his digital conveniently was dead, and he made every denial in the book.

I know your face, I know your name, I saw your driver's liscence. I have you bookmarked. I promise you this, you will never be at one of these shows again. You are DAMN lucky I didn't catch you a second time.

And also to the 2 a-holes that were working in tandem with the audio recorders. I wouldn't show your face around anytime soon either. You don't wanna piss Wayne off again. Me either. And Terminator knows you as well. And you pissed him off which is a BAD idea.

Rant off...

He has been nice enough to post all sorts of videos on Facebook & Youtube. Would everyone mind doing me a favor? Send him a note telling him what a douchebag he is.

This is the exact kind of person that prevents me from allowing digital cameras.

We should have a couple of lines in the terms and conditions section of the ticket purchase that says "Any person caught recording this show will be ejected, and have their picture posted on the wall for the next show." Let's call it the Wall of Shame and everyone can be on the lookout for potential repeat offenders...and if someone is considering stealing from ALL OF US, they might be dissuaded after they look at all the assholes captured in previous years.

I like the Wall of Shame idea.

He runs the site.

I don't really know what else to say beyond that.

Yep but there's also another admin as well as a 'manager' who might be interested to hear from Glenn or Shane about mister douchebag's methods. Just because someone does the html (or css or whatever) does not always make them the one in charge.

Errm, no. VERY FEW bands allow/encourage audience videotaping of their performances. Jam bands don't mind sometimes, but for most genres, videotaping is a no-no.

Photography is a different story, and many bands don't mind their audiences taking photos...but it's a tricky thing to determine who's holding up a digital camera to take photos, and who's holding it up to take videos.

My question to Glenn would be, with bands such as The Greatful Dead and Phish encouraging bootlegging, would you ever consider allowing it if a band requested it be permited during thier set?

If it were just one band, then Glenn probably couldn't permit it, in fairness to the other bands on that night's roster.

Solution: don't book any jam bands!

That's what makes me triply mad. I noticed this year nobody searched me to see if I was carrying this or that camera. I could have brought my digicam in and took pics (I'm absolutely not interested, nor have the capability to take good long videos) much better than my cheap disposable one and no one would have noticed. I decided to play by the rules instead of taking my chances and loose the festival by eviction.

I do believe we should get a pic of this guy and post it. Because of him and the ones like him the rest will have to suffer (including Glenn).

I don't think so. When I took a picture, I just look though the viewfinder and shoot. That should'n take me more than 1 minute if I have all my settings (manual or auto) ready. To take a video you have to hold your camera steady pointing to the band for quite a long time. I tried once for a local band for which I was roadie and was so complicated that I ended with a minute of video, ultra-shitty sound and my arms tired....never again!

Regarding the present thread i have to say this:

-All videos posted on youtube about progpowerusa X are removed, if glenn contact me with a polite decent email and ask me nicelly to remove the videos i would remove them inmediatly, but instead he insulted and threatened me, but even with that email i decided to remove them myself, no problem, they were just a few little short vids anyway, i do this because i love progressive metal music and i want to help spread the word about it and give the bands the exposure they deserve, i made no profit at all for this, to the contrary, i have to pay for server expenses, design, updates and everything and i do it just to promote progmetal to the fans, if progpowerusa dont want that, thats ok, i will not post the videos just tell me and thats all, i had no problem with that. BTW i only upload vids from the showcase because there was not restriction about cameras that day, the days of the festival friday and sat i didnt even brought the camara to the venue, i took pics with the musicians and friends only with my cel.

-About the redemption cd i brought at the venue and i didnt knew it was not for sale yet! sorry for that, i removed the cd from the product list!, btw i was selling it with no profit at all (just like all cds on the store), just to help the band because here in mexico its almost imposible to buy progresive metal albums!!, anyway i removed that also, sorry for that nick! (btw nice seeing you and i hope everything goes well, you will beat this i know!)

-And about the oficcial distribution of Nightmare records in mexico let me tell you we had the full permision of Lance King to do this, he even authorize the banners, the text and all the website has about this, i dont know why lance says that this is "news from him!", thats not true, i know him for years and im a regular costumer of his site and he give me good prices for the reselling/distro in mexico, i even have ALL THE EMAILS he sent me authorizing this distribution, and he even had (in his old NMR website) a banner from perfectprog, i wrote lance and ask him to clarify this issue, i hope he does the right thing.

-Im friend of most of the musicians and no one never ask me to remove a video, contrary to that everyone thanked me for the support, i give away thirts, canvas, stickers, etc, all sort of publicity for free to the bands and promoters, i even invite several bands to play in mexico like Hourglass and others, and we make several concerts here always with a lot of loose of money of my wallet! because here its very hard to people to understand this kind of music, i want to end that, im a musician myself and we need help to promote our music, progressive metal its the most beautiful kind of music, a few videos wont hurt any band!

Im sorry if the videos hurt some feelings to the musicians of anyone, i just wanted to promote the music, this kind of music need more exposure thats all i can say, if you dont want me in the festival no more thats ok, no problem but dont do such a big thing about this.

Leonel
