    Guitar Tone

After reading this thread I was intrigued enough to try and dial in my own Opeth tone. I am playing a Aria Pro II ZZ Standard with DiMarzio Evo humbuckers into a Line 6 Flextone 3. The tone I was aiming for was 'Deliverance Intro Metal Tone' I started as was suggested earlier with the...

Opeth live sound: Some questions to Mikael

Ask thereformant about getting electro-acoustic tones out of electrics, he knows about that. I have found that e-acoustics feedback like a bitch without a rubber body plug, at high volume. I guess it all depends if you really want your live sound to be exactly the same as your record. otherwise...

Opeth live sound: Some questions to Mikael

the thing with Opeth's particular set-up is that the PRS's have such great tone anyway that they sorta iron out the harsh tones of the digital modelling. if I was gonna go for L'Opeth sound I would defo start with the guitar. Opeth's distortion tone is nothing special really.

    Friday Post: Slipknot Versus Opeth

Lucifuge there are two things i believe in: Discipline, The Bible and Joey Jordisonz. Also Wait and Bleed sounds like Living La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin. have you ever noticed that you dont ever see Corey Taylor and Ricky Martin in the same room? Spooky....could it really be!?

    Friday Post: Slipknot Versus Opeth

I believe it was Phillip Lahm that postulated the first theory of the Laplace; the ability to morph a song using a minimum of 3 cadences into another that is completely different. I would personally love to hear some mash-ups of Opeth and Slipknot songs: Wait and Be Knighted Surfacing of...

    Friday Post: Slipknot Versus Opeth

Agreed. Any modern prog composer would jump at the chance to use poly-amorous cadences to inject a little 'spice' into their otherwise boring metal structures.

    Opeth songs you hate

Isolation Years sucks wang. Lotus Eater is terribly structured as is Porcelain Heart. Sounds like a bunch of riffs thrown together. and tbh a lot of the stuff off Orchid I dont listen to much, although I concede it needs to have happened for Opeth to progress into the band they are today

Opeth and my crystal ball: Predictions for the next album

Yeah I kinda see it going one of two ways, either super melodic, with lush queen-esque vocal arrangements etc or more kinda extended, like Opeth's take on Yes, more use of keyboards, less tight structures. Whats Tuvan throat singing btw?
