I highly recommend seeing Styx on this tour...

Thanks for the info, Andy!

I have heard Seventh Key, and they're really good. I'll have to check out Native Window, as I wasn't aware of that project. It seems that all of the guys in Kansas have all of these recording projects. It would be cool to hear that stuff live, too. Unfortunately, I doubt there's really any demand for it.

To answer The Rhythm's question, the tour is billed with Styx and Foreigner as co-headliners, but Styx is playing last.

Stay metal. Never rust.

Last time I saw Styx was quite a few years ago, at Beloit's River Fest.
Thought they were great, and I seriously didn't miss Dennis one bit.
I'd definitely see them again. This current tour would probably be a fun event to check out....

Saw Styx with Boston a few summers ago. I was definitely more excited for Boston, but was also interested in seeing Styx, as I'd never seen either band live before. Wasn't expecting that much out of Styx without DeYoung. Boy was I wrong. They were friggin fantastic. Others have already mentioned the reasons so I won't reiterate.

Also saw Foreigner a few summers ago and they were fantastic, too. It was extra cool with Jason Bonham on drums since they treated us to a little Zeppelin.

Seeing them both with Kansas at the Chicago date on this tour. No way I would have skipped it. Can't wait.

I'm old school Styx here -- meaning that Styx isn't Styx without Dennis DeYoung.....
Wish they would patch things up and get back to being Styx one more time .....

This.

Had the opportunity to see Styx and Kansas in Nashville in the 1990s. It was truly a magical experience! Styx had almost the full line-up, except for John Panozzo, who was ill at the time and passed away not long after.

Well, it looks like you got the better show in Augusta than we got here in Orlando tonight. (Our show was to benefit the 'Coalition for the Homeless' here in Central Florida.) Not sure why, but I think that played a part in the abbreviated set list.

That's too bad-- I'm glad they still delivered. You'd mentioned the pull of T. Shaw in the band re: High Enough. I was looking at some other recent setlists and saw that they also had "Coming of Age" in the encore last week in Spartanburg, SC...

I'd heard there were plans when Kansas tours as a headliner to have Native Window open. That would be awesome.

Now THAT would be awesome! Killer song.

The last time I saw Styx (a few years ago), they worked Great White Hope into the medley. I was more than a little surprised and thrilled :headbang:

Would love to have heard Great White Hope. That is a great song too!
QOS is by far my favorite Styx song though.

Oh...of course! I used to live near there.

New Yorkers-- I see they are playing the Beacon Theater on October 28.

Included in their set will be the "The Grand Illusion" and "Pieces of Eight" albums in their entirety...

:kickass:

I saw Styx in 1996 w/ DeYong, Ponozzo (bass), Shaw, Young and Schurman (drummer)...the original drummer was sick but had not yet passed. Kansas opened for them (pre-Robbie Steinhardt's return). Both bands were in stellar form...

WOOT!! Awesome! Thanks for the heads-up. I wouldn't miss this show. Pieces of Eight is my favorite Styx album! :headbang:

Whoah, I see it's a whole mini-east coast tour....

STYX To Launch The Grand Illusion / Pieces Of Eight Tour Performing Both Album In Their Entirety; EP Of Re-Recorded Classics/ New Track For Sale At Shows
Rock Hard
Posted on Wednesday, August 04, 2010 at 13:50:41 EST

It’s the tour STYX fans have been waiting for.

Styx - Tommy Shaw (vocals, guitars), James “JY” Young (vocals, guitars), Lawrence Gowan (vocals, keyboards), Todd Sucherman (drums) and Ricky Phillips (bass), along with the occasional surprise appearance by original bassist Chuck Panozzo—are getting ready to head out on the US concert trail again this year.

However, for this round of dates, the band has an extra-special treat planned - it won’t be a typical Styx show. Along with the classic hits, the band will be performing 1977's The Grand Illusion and 1978's Pieces Of Eight in their entirety. Both albums spawned such hit singles and Classic Rock radio standards as 'Come Sail Away', 'Renegade', 'Blue Collar Man' and 'Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)'.

And as icing on the cake, a seven-song EP, entitled Regeneration - Volume 1, containing six newly re-recorded classics - 'Come Sail Away', 'Crystal Ball', 'Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)', 'Lorelei', 'The Grand Illusion' and 'Sing For The Day' - and a brand new track, 'Difference In The World', will be available for sale at every stop along The Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight October/November tour route.

“This is the most unique Styx concert ever,” says singer/guitarist Tommy Shaw. “It's a hybrid experience of enjoying the artistry of the vinyl album and the energy and of our live performance. Some songs have never been performed live!”
