Kemper Profiling Amp

This unit is just amazing!

First day with tweaking and shit and I'm already satisfied(and I*m sure that I will be even more when knowing this baby better)...
 
^^That's super interesting and I love the tone on the latest album, but I didn't know Colin mixed it. I thought Bill Stevenson did it but I guess he just tracked; that makes sense now!

Would literally kill for that patch. So sick!

Worth noting that when Josh says "last three albums" and "first album" he's referencing his first album with the band, which was An Ocean Between Us.
 
I have a question:

I'm using S/P-Dif(works like a charm) and since S/P-Dif is stereo it would be fucking awesome if you could route/manage to record on one side the Kemper(sound) and on the other the Di directly. All via S/P-Dif...
Is this possible somehow? Or at least technical so Kemper could do this in a future update?

It's so nice to use S/P-Dif, you really can save Analog outputs(and the reamp box, cables etc...)

It is. Haven't done it myself yet, but loads of people are doing it. It's the way to go, no doubt about it.
 
Nice, have to leave for work now but I would be stoked if someone could send me a link or shoot a short message how this works, as I haven't found anything...
 
It is possible and it's how I record guitars now. In the output settings, you're able to choose different modes for SPDIF. Set it to gtr+mod mono, DI will be left, KPA signal right. It won't include the delay/reverb FX, but everything else will be there!

Question for you guys, why do you want to record like this? I just plug my guitar in the my interface as normal then use the Kemper as an effect insert on the DI track.

Plus this way I can put effects before and after the Kemper if needed.

I don't get any additional latency. There should be no extra A/D D/A conversion once you've hit the interface converters as spdif is all digital.

I also like using it this way because I can easily bang the Kemper on any track and reamp it. Bassically using the Kemper as a plugin.

It's identical to recording the amp track + a DI (I hate working with just DI's and an amp-sim because I hate running unnecessary plugins while tracking. I track with a really high sample rate (1024/2048) and only monitor inputs to avoid any chance of crackling/popping).

How do you deal with multiple parts that should have the KPA tone when recording when using the KPA as a plugin? I like the idea a lot but it's not really feasible when tracking.
 
Yeah, I see how that could work. Typically I do work with the DI and tend to drag them to a muted track and repeat the part on the kemper track. I bounce the Kemper output when I need it.

I like the Idea, what's the DI like? I'm pretty happy with my interface DI, having said that I haven't tested the Kemper.

How do you work with the buffer so high? Doesn't that add heaps of latency?

DI is fine; I went from going gtr -> redeye -> API312 -> FF800, I feel no degradation going gtr -> KPA -> SPDIF.

Again - I don't monitor anything but the inputs. Latency isn't an issue. I've never gotten how guys track with the buffer super low because my computer freaks the fuck out and adds clicks/pops to recorded tracks or isn't stable in playback. With a few tracks it's fine but when I'm doing my full tracking (and I mix as I go) it just doesn't fly.

I still don't understand how you track with the KPA as an insert. Do you only listen to one DI at a time or are you just constantly bouncing the plugin every time you complete a riff? That sounds like such a pain in the ass.
