ProgPower USA IX picture thread

so you can use the 50mm f/1.8 with the xti and have auto focus????????????????????????????????????

jeeeeeez I thought the xti doesn't have the focus motor in the body!? Does it?

Ehm.. I think, if I remember right, the focus motor is in the lens itself. But that's from me reading it somewhere. Not 100% sure.

Anyway, my last batch of Elvenking Photo's are done. Only 5 more, vs the 15 or so I thought I'd have. I have 4 shots of Damna playing Gorlan's bass, but I only felt like working on one, as the subjects are bathed in a horrid magenta-low-contrast-light, and I didn't save the settings on the color correction for the following picture:

That's all for these guys for now. On to Pathosray this week!

I know my xt can use AF with that same lens.

okay i totally screwed over a few of my customers :-\ is the af motor in the lens or body? i swear i didn't think it was on the lens, and i'm almost positive it's not on the body, so now i'm just really confused.

i just know also with the nikon d40, d40x, and the d60 you can't use that lens as an AF :-\ so i figured it mirrored over to canon's opposing equipment but oh man i screwed up. :OMG: :yuk:

Sorry to interupt you but I can assure you that all canon prosumer cameras (including xt, xti, xsi...) have motor in the body. The only one uses motored lenses is the nikon d40...
Anyway...nialz: great pics! (I use the 50mm aswell, cheap, light...great!)

Nikon d40 doesn't have autofocus motor in the body, only lenses. Which means it cannot AF lenses that don't have an AF motor.

Canon's XT & XTi have an autofocus in the body, and in the lens as well. Most (all?) canon EOS lenses have an AF motor. But even if it doesn't, the XT/Xti can still autofocus because of the AF motor in the body.

I've got all mine finally put on the computer. Now I just need to make a photobucket. I'll get working on that. Have a lot of attendees (a funny one of you and yip) and some good and not so good band pics... the lighting was really weird/dark blue on a lot of them. Ah, well.... Some years they turn out great and others not so great depending upon the lighting, usually...

Thanks Kathy, these are great pics!

Hmm...I think I know a few of those people. :D

It is pretty funny because I saw you a zillion times, mostly in passing, though, quick conversation, so I never got a picture with you out of the zillion that I took. I had a bunch of you last year, though!!!!

Thanks Kathy, these are great pics!

Thanks... actually, a lot of them didn't come out very good this year, and I didn't get enough of you and yip! Next year will be a better year!:kickass:

Maybe I should look into getting a new camera for next year. Any suggestions from anybody, as far as a good camera that's legal for the fest?

I'm sure Esa or others can give you better advice (though there's some other threads on camera recommendations, and I think some info on film cameras), but I think you'd be happy with this one

[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Rebel-2000-Camera-28-80mm/dp/B00001QEMF/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1223318994&sr=1-19[/ame]

The problem is that there are fewer and fewer film cameras now. So these are all used. You could get a new Nikon FM10, but I doubt you are wanting to spend ~$340.

I suggest this camera (canon k2) with [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Canon-50mm-1-8-Camera-Lens/dp/B00007E7JU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1223323555&sr=8-1"]this lens [/ame] (50mm f/1.8) so you won't have to use a flash for anything really, it's a great low light lens.

if you really want to get some good shots of the bands at mid/side/front crowd distance, then i'd suggest [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Canon-85mm-Telephoto-Lens-Cameras/dp/B00007GQLU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1223323642&sr=1-1"]this lens [/ame] (85mm f/1.8) but its $350 (but seriously well worth it).

edit: oh i see cheiron recommended a very similar camera. they're both good. the lenses are very important as well so make sure you get a low light lens :D

I used my new Sigma 50mm 1.4 HSM last weekend during PPeurope.

I'll have to deal with 30GB data, so it will take a while before i sorted, processed and have uploaded the pics that end up beiing used so samples will follow later. I honestly can say the lens is a beauty to work with, fast, sharp and colorfoul images. I struggled with focussing with the 28mm and 85mm lens during the low light moments compared to this new one.
The lens is much bigger than the Nikon one, they will come with a fast version (AF-S) in december, but i didn't wanted to wait and i'm not disappointed.
