2012 half year list

The year hasn't picked up a whole lot, but there have been some totally killer records released in the past two or three months, so there's a few to add.

Mgla - With Hearts Towards None
Degial - Death's Striking Wings
Jess and the Ancient Ones - Jess and the Ancient Ones
Ostots - Heriotzaren Bidezidorrak
Accept - Stalingrad
Pseudogod - Deathwomb Catechesis
Chapel - Satan's Rock and Roll
Dark Sonority - Kaosrekviem
Elysian Blaze - Blood Geometry

These are the only six so far that are deserving of a top 10 spot on my list. There are several others that could push for a spot yet, but to date haven't logged the proper amount of spins to solidify a slot.

Moonspell - Alpha Noir
Headspace - I Am Anonymous
Lanfear - The Harmonic Consonance
Savage Messiah - Plague Of Conscience
Soen - Cognitive
Testament - Dark Roots Of Earth

Paradise Lost: Tragic Idol
Mnemic: Mnemesis

Elvenking: Era

This one will be my number one for the year. I can guarantee that. This band is untouchable as far as I'm concerned.

Sybreed - God Is An Automation

Some other top releases will be

Mnemic - Mnemesis
Meshuggah - Koloss
Testament - Dark Roots Of The Earth

There are bunch of others that could possibly make my list as well.

That good, huh? I'm a big fan of the genre and have heard good things about these guys, but i've never gotten around to give them a serious listen. Methinks i'll change that immediamente.

Disappointments of the year:

Firewind: Days of Defiance (Second shitty album in a row, probably not bothering with them anymore)

Well, Days Of Defiance was from 2010 and was excellent in my book (one of my faves from the band), far to be shitty.
Few Against Many is the new album, and is indeed disappointing, but not shitty. It's just an average album, with a few good songs, and some so-so stuff. It seemed to have been rushed and has not as much memorable melodies as previous albums.

Sorry, got the two mixed up, meant to say Few against Many. I didn't even buy Few Against Many because DoD gave me a feeling that they were on the way down, and I was right. I love their first 5 albums though. I'd say DoD was below average (the 3-4 good songs kept me hopeful) but with Few Against Many they threw out so much of what made them great and turned into a classic rock/metal wannabe band. Bad lyrics, ("yeah yeah yeah" choruses...c'mon), bad production, the guitar tone is way too clean with no balls left (Compare to Burning Earth, Forged by Fire, even Allegiance. I'll let the cleaner tone slide on The Premonition because that album was fuckin awesome), not to mention Apollo's voice sucking. Basically their new stuff is just so bland.
