The Devin Townsend Thread

WHAAAAAAT?!?!? The new one is out!?!??!

No, just leaked...and I haven't heard a note from it yet, though all these best album yet/return to the OM & Terria form comments have me anticipating it breathlessly...Actual release date is January 27. Vai appearing on it is insignificant for me, especially after reading Devy's track by track summary he posted earlier this month.

This guy's funny , in most of his interviews he could not stop saying that each of his projects was different one from another. But that's not really the case. There are many musicians that would love to have 1/10 of his exposure , he's lucky.

If you discover the man with Ocean Machine chances are that you will be disappointed by any of his followers.I was and I sold mine away.

That's your opinion . For me nothing beats "Bastard" from Ocean Machine in his catalogue . It's also a lot more introspective.

More introspective than "Stagnant"?

Summer's here, the sunlight greets the day
The winters gone, there's no more rain today...
And if I could, I'm sure that I would take your breath away
So ain't it funny how, after trying to find my way home
I'm in the middle now and I won't get lost again

Cause in the winter time, when everything is grey
And in the summer time, into the month of May
I get a feeling that it's all so temporary
And that's the feeling that can take my blues away

Tired of the way that I'm feeling everyday
And I feel it in my head
Tired of the way that I'm feeling everyday
And I feel it in my head now, my head now

It's beautiful, the way it's meant to be...beautiful, but it don't do shit for me...
So peel away a little skin and choke upon the bone
And ain't it funny how, after trying to find my way home,
I'm in the middle now, and I won't get lost again.

But you don't know, how or when it's gonna go

It's almost a pop song. A good one though.

I meant the whole thing is much darker musically , at least for me . Terria sounds too polished comapred to OM whose production has always fascinated me (cause at the time I was a fan I still paid attention to production and other "details"..) . That's a neverending debate :D

Yeah, I agree. I used tio think OM was by far his best work, but I think I've listened to it way too much. Terria, on the other hand, hasn't grown stale at all. It's kinda a driving-in-your-car-through-the-mountains record. Hopefully the new one carries a similar vibe.

Well , it seems that Townsend specialists here who've heard the disc think it's good+/great . In fact , Only Chromatose has , I think :loco:

And JK also..

Well, Chromatose and I have eerily similar tastes, so I'm excited. Then again, I probably would have bought it blindly even if he'd said it was crap. :)

What do you think about Accelerated Evolution? I've never made my mind about that one , even at the peak of my fanboy period. I think it's solid but it lacks something to be pretty awesome.

Along with "Physicist", I've listened to that one the least. I don't really know why, either. When it came out, I liked it a lot. "Suicide" (I think that's the one with the guitar solo right?) and the last two tracks are pretty outstanding, if I remember correctly. For some reason, though, I never really went back to it. I think you're right in saying it's "solid"... not close to the genius that is OM or Terria, but still pretty good in its own right.

yeah I think its time you took another hiatus RapedInNewJersey, scrapin' the bottom of the ol' insult barrel, eh?

What's next? "Hey the ocean called, they're running outta shrimp!"

It wasn't an insult.

I'll take a hiatus when I'm goddamned good & ready, and it won't be dictated by you, capece?
