Geoff Tate FTW.

Dickinson, Steele, Owens, Dio, Barlow, they're all up there, but Tate is King of all Vocals. Re-listen to Mindcrime and Promised Land.

Not in any order:
Geoff Tate
Mike Ericksen
Midnight
Roy Khan
Daniel Heiman
Nils from Pagan's Mind
M. Luppi - he blew me away last year at PP with La Vita Fugge

and out of just shear respect, Halford and Dio

and for me that's about it... I'm still expanding my metal collection but when I listen to these guys I always get poose gimples like I'm hearing them for the first time all over again...

1) Tarja :worship:
2) Bruce Dickinson :headbang:
3) Dio
4) Christina Scabbia
5) Matthias Blad
6) Geddy Lee (yea i know Rush ain't metal but Geddy can sing)
7) Timo Kotipelto
8,9,&10 Liv Kristine, Sharon den Adel, Mario Plank

I also really like Erik Adams and Marco Heldita

My favorites would look something like (in no particular order):

Warrel Dane (Nevermore)
Joe Duplantier (Gojira)
Marius Duda (Riverside)
James Malone (Arsis)
Ville Viljanen (Mors Principium Est)
Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian)
John K. (Biomechanical)
Jens Carlsson (Persuader, Dark Empire, Savage Circus)
Heri Joensen (Týr)
Jari Mäenpää (Wintersun)
Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
Lars F. Larsen (Manticora)
Mikkel Sandager (Mercenary)

I suppose it's hardly a laundry list of metal's most talented alumni, but they're easily the vocalists whose performances I most enjoy.

1.Ray Alder-without a doubt,the greatest metal singer ever
1a.Ray Gillen-Badlands is the greatest bluesy rock band...ever!
2.Geoff Tate-the early years were near untouchable
3.John Arch-He led the way for Ray Alder,Awaken is an all time classic
4.Bruce Dickenson-The middle era Maiden discs are all great
5.Matt Barlow-Brought Iced Earth from the middle of the pack for a time
6.Chris Salinas-Need I say more?
7.Midnight-Who cares if hes mental...hes still got it when he wants to deliver
8.King Diamond-Abigail,Them,and Merciful Fate...greatness
9.Jon Oliva-Not a classic great singer,but he IS savatage
10.Zakk Stevens-The perfect replacement
11.Dio-Dio is Dio
12."Blitz"Ellsworth-Overkill had that bite,that snarl
13.James LABrie-because of the emotion...no power,but still...

Jorn Lande - the voice of metal at this time

Rob Halford - the voice of metal at one time (argueably still)

Ray Alder - great phrasing

James Labrie - the voice that put DT on the map

Jack Bielata - Without Warning...a little bluesy in my prog metal

Geoff Tate - then...now, doesn't matter...much copied vocalist

Kelly Carpenter - vocals on Outworld ripped my head off

Gregg Analla - Seventhsign...great voice...should have a record deal

Steve Grimmett - Grim Reaper, Lionsheart...dude can wail

Carl Albert - Vicious Rumors...RIP

I feel that Jorn Lande is more AOR oriented moreso than Metal, it just so happens that he sings for a lot of metal bands. I would not consider him to be the voice of metal at this time, but I'd settle for one of the voices. Metal is too diverse to stick it to one man as the sound.

Agree with many of those already listed. A couple of others I would add that haven’t been mentioned:

Tom Mallicoat – Lethal
Michael Olivieri – Leatherwolf
