I know it came out last year, but I just recently got it, John Macaluso and Union Radio, and holy crap, gotta love Macaluso. Currently my most listens in the past week, but I still make time to listen to Trivium's Shogun over and over again, my #1 cd of 2008. #2 and #3 are Bloodbath-the fathomless mastery and Opeth-watershed.

Am I the only one having problems remembering which releases I dug this year? I should start making a list throughout the year to remember it all by...

1. EYEFEAR – The Unseen
Nothing comes close to this one. Every time they make a new album, it automatically becomes my #1 of the year (unless Tori Amos or Kate Bush puts out another release that year of course). Their mixture of power and prog with ton of great melodies, just appeal to me more than any other band.

2. CYNIC – Traced In Air
I didn't get this until Christmas (shame on me), but I've no doubts that this ranking is where it belongs. Fantastic album by a not-forgotten-hero.

3. PROTEST THE HERO – Fortress
What do you get if you mix Watchtower with Faith No More and throw in a good deal of modern day "nu" metal? Right, PTH!

4. SEVENTH WONDER – Mercy Falls
Interesting concept, fantastic melodies, great performance by all musicians and the best new singer in prog-metal. Sure, we've heard most of it before, but this is just damn good!!!!

5. TESTAMENT – The Formation Of Damnation
Thrash metal album of the year. Nuff said!

And the rest:

6. AMASEFFER – Slaves For Life
7. LANFEAR – X To The Power Of Ten
8. TRIVIUM – Shogun
9. KINGS X - XV
10. ALMAH – Fragile Equality
11. ANDRE MATOS – Time To Be Free
12. ENTAKT – Paa Bagsiden Af Europa
13. FIREWIND – The Premonition
14. BEYONCE – I Am Sasha Fierce
15. METALLICA – Death Magnetic
16. AVANTASIA – The Scarecrow
17. ROYAL HUNT – Collision Course
18. GARY HUGHES – Veritas
19. TESLA – Forever More
20. OPETH – Watershed

I wonder if I forgot any ... probably :)

Overall this probably was one of the more disappointing years, especially as a followup to 2007. I will admit I'm extremely behind in albums though having only just started listening to what I acquired at PP.
Albums I enjoyed in no particular order:

Amaseffer - Exodus: Slaves For Life
Haggard - Tales of Ithiria (only thing I hate about this album is the short length of it)
Seventh Wonder - Mercy Falls
Ayreon - 01011001
Sabaton - The Art of War
Mercenary- Architect of Lies
Volbeat - Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood
Darkwater - Calling The Earth To Witness

Albums I really need to give some more listens to:
Virgin Black - Requiem - Fortissimo
The Killers - Day & Age
Avian - Ashes and Madness
Opeth - Watershed
Pyramaze - Immortal
Avantasia
To-Mera - Delusions

I like Tomorrow's Eve music-wise but the album really suffers heavily from bad voice acting. Seventh Wonder has some but it's not nearly as bad.
