Solid 08 releases so far

this doesn't really classify as a new release as it is not new material and its a live album, but I just picked up The Gathering's new DVD "A Noise Severe".

A must have for Gathering fans. If you're not a fan, this may help convert you.

Great song selection and great video production.

Oh yeah, Dominici- O3 part 3.....fuckin killer!!!!

:zombie:

Considering this point of reference, I don't think I'll ever lose any sleep over a disagreement between us in the future.

haha but dude, you totally misquoted me. I said as far as their thrash albums go RTL is the worst. I never said it was bad. :D However, some of the more poppy (like "Escape") songs that sound like they were purposely written to sell albums but completely lose everything awesome about Metallica keep it from being the best. In fact, I don't even think those songs were written by Metallica. While I do think that RTL had several classic Metallica songs... it doesn't hold up as a FULL album compared to Master Of Puppets and Justice, or even Kill Em All IMO.

But hey, that's fine. Hopefully we can disagree on more stuff so that you can have a full night's sleep and continue to book awesome fests hahaha :D.

Aside from their first disc, I think they're mildly overrated tbh.

I think they're consistently overrated by their fan base, but I thoroughly enjoy listening to them largely by virtue of the fact that they've managed to craft a distinct sound while still belonging to an identifiable genre. I constantly get progressive rock recommendations that wear their Pink Floyd (and other) influences on their sleeves but I find The Mars Volta aren't quite so blatant about it.

It's true though. Glenn, whether it be by accident or whatever, misquoted me... I never said that Ride The Lightning was their worst album, but out of their "golden years", it was their worst (or to be more politically correct for the slow... their least amazing) album. That doesn't mean I think, or said, that RTL was a bad album. Either you didn't read my post, or you skimmed it over and typed your jab response for the sake of getting it in there. Congratulations, both possibilities suck.

Being that I was 11 when the 90s began, I don't think I can judge 80s music. Music belongs to an era. It can still be great afterwards, but its same impact won't be there.

Same reason I can't compare albums of completely different musical styles. They all have their own effect on me.

But I will say that the musical level of pop music has gone way down since the introduction of MTV and mass video media.

Mass market no longer is interested in buying albums from geeks.

You practically need a stylist to have a chance of succeeding.

Compare 10CC to any pop music out today.
