Congratulations Jason, you've officially made the biggest clusterfuck of a thread ever. This thing's going to get huge. I will probably post mine later but will have to think as far as the shows I've seen.

There's no way I can do it... ahah

A few notables:

First ever show: Angra in Rio de Janeiro in 1997
Second show: Bruce Dickinson/Scorpions/Dio in Rio de Janeiro, also 1997

Last show: Porcupine Tree last Saturday in Miami

I've been to concerts in 6 countries: Brazil, Chile, Mexico, USA, Germany and Finland... Most of my travels were to see The Gathering.

I don't have years. I just have a list of bands and the number of times I've seen them:

I also have a list like that. Mine is all written down by hand and not in the computer yet. It's about as big as Zod's list and pretty eclectic. This year I have already seen Anvil, Blondie, Blue Oyster Cult, Styx, Chicago and the classic albums live performance of Aerosmith's 'Toys In The Attic.'

Hahahahaha......
This thread has potential to be the greatest ever!!!
I love stuff like this.

Holy smokes!!! I can't believe some of the lineups I never knew about, like Deep Purple and Girlschool together??? That's nuts!

Mad jealous of the number of folks here who have seen Saxon too.

Both were good shows especially Return to the Sabbat. Martin is the coolest frontmen ever. The Catley/Ten gig was a dual headline and a lot of fun for melodic rock fans. I don't think either Ten or Bob has toured since. Well Bob plays with Magnum of course but no solo gigs as this was. BTW a new Ten album is in the works and if it falls in the lap of the melodic rock gods it will be released by Frontiers on 10-10-10! Now that's a pretty cool gimmick if it actually happens. The only thing which lets it down is that it will only be Ten's ninth Studio album. :)

Yes, Martin is a fantastic frontman. I saw him with Skyclad years ago (with Conception as support!!!!). I never saw Sabbat though, and it sucks, as they were one of the 3 bands for which I ever cared enough to join the fan club back in the day.

Ten is just one of the best (if not THE best) hard rock bands of the last decades. Not one bad album in their catalogue, and Gary is one of the nicest guys I've ever talked to. I'd love to see them live one day (Glenn, for crying out loud - book TEN for PP :))

c.

PS: you mentioned wanting to see Running Wild? I've seen them in Hamburg with Primal Fear supporting them. Great show.

Yeah I'm jealous you've seen RW. BADLY! :)

That Return to the Sabbat give was without Andy Sneap btw. I think they played more recent ones with Sneap in the band as well. As for Ten I am a big fan as well, especially love Gary's vocals and songwriting style. Only problem is Ten have had some well dodgy production jobs on some records. My fave Ten is either Babylon or Spellbound but like you said al of them have great songs in them somewhere along the line.

The only time I remember Running Wild in Chicago was at the Metro with VoiVod and Celtic Frost, I believe.

Them and Grave Digger are two long running German bands I have never seen.
Obviously I never will see RW.

Don't even get me started. They're numero uno on my "to see" list as I'm sure you probably already know.

Yeah, it's almost a crime that there hasn't been a Motorhead / Saxon US tour in recent times. I think it would be good for both bands, as I am getting sick of lame Motorhead openers. I actually passed on seeing Motorhead for the first time in seriously 10+ years, because of the openers.

But dammit, now I wanna somehow track all of the ones I actually did attend.

http://www.songkick.com might be able to help a bit. You can use it both to find info about shows you may have attended, and also to keep a record of those shows for you, so when this thread comes around again you'll have a nice list to reference.

My tally at the moment is 230 concerts, so I won't list them all here; you can see them at http://www.songkick.com/users/skyrefuge/gigography In terms of "concerts I've written down", I think I win the thread so far, except that includes plenty of non-metal.

Here's a writeup I did on Songkick for the PMX:2 board:

=====================

http://www.songkick.com/

A website that serves as both a historical record of concert performances, and source for upcoming concert information. For example, you can find out how many times your favorite band played in your city before you even knew about them. Or just see who's coming to town, Pollstar-style.

Then, when you sign up, it can serve as a personal database for concerts you've attended, and you can add/edit concerts, both upcoming, and past (adding photos, setlists, reviews, etc.)

Although I have a custom database for my music collection and listening statistics, I've never created a similar one for my concert tracking/history. Instead, I've only had that in a spreadsheet. So, for kicks I spent the last couple weeks adding my entire concert history to Songkick (which also meant that I created many of concerts for the older shows).

For upcoming concert notifications, you can upload your iTunes database or last.fm profile, and it will automatically "track" all of the artists in your collection. Unfortunately, it seems like half the shows I go to these days are for artists whose music I don't even own, so it won't tell me about those shows (though on the page for each show, it will show "similar concerts" coming up). You can also "track" venues.

The first day after I signed up I was informed about two new concerts (Alcest and Del Castillo) before I found out about them through my usual sources, so I think it's worth it just for that.

last.fm has a similar database, and a much larger population of users, so why did I tie myself to Songkick instead? I dunno, I just liked the feel better. It's focused solely on concerts, and they seem more dedicated to becoming the "wikipedia of concerts", so maybe over time they'll get more popular. They also seem to have better tools for analyzing and manipulating your data, and make it much easier to show off (which was my main goal anyway!) For example, you can see who has seen the most concerts by a certain band, or at a certain venue. I learned that the Metro is my most-visited venue (26 times), and that I've been to 217 concerts in all, both of which would have been tough to figure out from my spreadsheet.

You can also track other users, so if anyone wants to keep track of which awesome Chicago-area shows I'll be going to (or if you just want to know when is a good time to burgle my house), I'm at http://www.songkick.com/users/skyrefuge

=====================

The lesson to all the youngsters out there: whether it's on a yellow legal pad, a Google Spreadsheet, or in Songkick, WRITE THAT SHIT DOWN! You'll thank yourself later when you're old and your memory is broken.

Neil

Looked like fun so I tried to remember all the shows. Some are missing, but what to do?. I also found out that my collection of ticket stubs is gone as well, nice mystery. Some stubs I had in photo albums because they were autographed or have attached guitar picks from the show so they're listed with the dates here.

There's not very many non-rock or metal shows, so they're listed just cause.
