"Heavy" power metal: A dying breed....

WOLF may not be what Glenn's looking for in a 'HEAVY' Power Metal band, but they have my vote for being a strong next generation traditional/power metal act. I know they have 2 or 3 albums out already, but they still haven't been to the U.S. *nudges the lovable PPUSA promoter* :saint:

I also love CAGE - another not-so-new band, but their albums have gotten stronger and heavier with each release. And Sean Peck promises their next cd should be even heavier and faster.

But as for your question Glenn - I'm at a loss. :(

I LOVE heavy power metal bands like Brainstorm, Nocturnal Rites, and Angel Dust. I love them so much that I started a band that draws a lot from that style :loco:

I have a new band called Divinity Compromised that might fit in your "heavy power metal" lists. We had a track on last years ProgPower sampler. We are going into the studio in a couple of weeks to record the debut album. You can hear the track we submitted here - www.myspace.com/divinitycompromised

More tracks will be coming soon, our recording got pushed back due to other touring/band obligations.

I know the last is not really power metal, but it still kicks ass

Awesome. :kickass:

Please tell me Scott Huffman will be doing the vocals on the debut.

Sorry for the self promotion here but I think the new HW is going to fit the bill pretty nicely here. It's heavy as hell but has all the hooks and catchy choruses that a Brainstorm or the like would have. Pretty much it sounds like if you took a little Chimaira/Arch Enemy, mixed it with some old school thrash and such like Megadeth, and then put a bunch of clean vocals on top with a ton of vocal harmonies. I never know how to describe what we do - but the new album is a lot different from the first one - we think way better in all respects - and so you'll have to make the call I guess. Just got masters back last night and release date will be announced soon...but 2 songs are on our myspace/purevolume/etc.

They're one of my faves, but they're in the same category as Pharaoh. They're more of a throwback NWOBHM band than anything else. They are one band I'm dying to see and hope makes it to the fest someday. They also aren't new though and they actually have five albums, not just 2 or 3.

you pretty much missed the only ever Pharoh live show my freind. They played Keep It True Fest and the Alehorn of Power fest in Chicago 2 years ago and one other show only. They are pretty much a studio band and dont play shows. Also the members are scattered all over the country. One of the guys Chris who is the drummer and sometimes live bass player has High Spirits ( best chicago band ) and Superchrist plus a few other bands too to keep him busy and last I heard from him it would be years before another live show. I got to see them. great live band.

Edit.....I see you were talking about Wolf. I would really like to see them live.

No sorry Zod, Scott is focusing all his time and energy on Mindwarp Chamber right now. Which I can't complain, because that band is amazing, and he fits them perfectly. Lothar from Sacred Dawn is our vocalist, and he is incredible. You can expect the same caliber of vocals, but with more emphasis on high screams :D

Just listened to the 2 new songs on your myspace. Good stuff dude! Musically I really dig what you're doing. The only thing I would prefer is a little more grit in the vocals, the singer's almost got too good a voice
The few "growly" vocal parts are more my style. But that's just a personal preference. Either way, nice job! :kickass:

J-Man you are awesome for mentioning Axenstar even though I would never have thought to put the word heavy with them, until I saw that video. Howerver, I can not find any sign of a new album to go along with that video. They are among the top bands that I would love to see at PPUSA.

Inmoria - that kicked ass, great stuff had not heard of them before.

True, but since Inmoria = Morgana Lefay + Tad Morose, this would be part of the "inbreeding" Glenn is referring to. So would Fool's Game, but that's just because Matt Crooks is in the band.

No mention of Biomechanical? Chaoswave? Does Kiuas count?

I'd also love to hear about some newer dark power metal bands, as this stuff is my bread and butter.
