Kamelot Status for the Festival

Hmmm. Khan is great when on. So is Chris. Chris is on more than Khan. Sucks that Khan got sick though. To good health!

Wow. Talk about last minute derailment. I was looking forward to seeing Khan (like Zod, I haven't been impressed with him live, but wanted to see him again), but this sort of thing takes obvious precedent. Hopefully it's nothing very serious (RJD was more than enough of a loss for the community).

I was looking forward to Kamelot. However, now I am really excited. I can't wait to see Erikson belt out "Fourth Legacy".

I wish Roy the best ... one of my favorite vocalists of all-time. However I've seen him live several times with Kamelot so for some reason hearing Michael will add a whole different element to the equation. It should be interesting.

Has anyone checked on Christina yet?! :)

You know, this was one of my first thoughts too. ;)

I think she is at the Rush concert

I was just about to text her when I read your post and the ones above. Think I'll wait til after the Rush concert now.

Mixed emotions on the announcement.

First, damn glad they didn't cancel. They've shown real class and commitment.
Second, great choice of a replacement. Love his vocals and think if anyone can jump onto the Kamelot tour and make it work, it's Michael. They couldn't have done better in making a tough situation work well.
Third, I will be somewhat sad at not seeing Roy sing. Was planning on hitting two other shows (with Christina ;) ) after ProgPower. Still, I think overall the best way possible to handle a bad situation. Please get well soon, Roy. Your health is worth more than anything else.

Christina and i just texted - she found out about Roy just as she got to the Rush show :(

Awww, hope she has fun all the same.

We are such a hilarious group! I thought about texting her, but didn't want to ruin her Rush evening.

Ack!
Certainly disappointing to not see the full band...especially since it probably means none of the new album's songs...but health and family always come first. Kudos to the band for keeping the tour going and to Michael as a replacement who is one of the few I think could pull it off. Should sort of be a special treat to those of us that have seen the full band before.

Hey, every year it seems we live through band cancellations, replacements, illnesses, visa problems, etc. Yet every year we still end up with an incredible show...and some once in a lifetime memories. These days it's not so much "will changes will be made by the time PP roles around", but "what sort of cool improv will we get this year?!".

All the best to Roy. Michael, knock us dead!

Complete class on Kamelot's part and the best of luck to Roy in recuperating. Health is much more important than a gig, and I say this as a fan that has waited all year to see Kamelot with Roy for my first time ever! Awesome that the lead singer for CM is stepping up and I am sure this band will put on a great show in spite of and because of adversity. This will still be my first time to see Kamelot and I am still very much looking forward to it. The band and their management had much more class that another band that pulled out for no other reason their record release date was pushed back. Kudos Kamelot management and band. ROCK ON!!!!:headbang:

I am *BEYOND STOKED* to be seeing Kamelot in NYC on the 15th. Mike has got to be my favorite singer nowadays and as much as I love Khan, I'm really excited to hear the best voice in metal these days... Oh man, can't fucking wait!!!

This is the way these kind of situations should go when something unforeseen occurs - unfortunate for sure but this kind of thing happens and you have an awesome replacement with Michael, my prediction is it's going to be excellent; get well Roy!!!

Hope all is well with Roy.

Michael states:

“Roy and I go way back, so when he called and asked me to help him and the rest of Kamelot to do their long planned USA tour, I told him, “Sure bro, I am there for you.”

It will be big shoes to fill , but in his honor I will do my best to give the Kamelot fans a show they have long awaited. So grab your earplugs and come join the party!”

This is definitely true, now that Michael has the mic !!! :p

Wow..... and wow. Hearing the bad news about Kahn was like getting hit in the head with a brick, but then hearing about Mike as a replacement made the pain subside rather quickly. Only a band like Kamelot can come through and carry on with the tour with such a solid replacement. Kahn get well. Mike practice up. Kamelot we await your big headlining performance just as much as before the news release! See you in Atlanta!

Watching the PP X DVD to hear some Circus Maximus right now. After that, some Kamelot One Cold Winter's Night is on deck.

I just need to point out how different the opinions of this forum compared to Blabbermouth. There isn't a single positive comment about this news on the Blabbermouth news (comments). Everyone's saying about how much Kamelot should have canceled the tour, how Kamelot without Khan = Maiden without Bruce, that it's not worth it, blah blah blah... Fuck those people. This is going to be fucking awesome!

Damn shame for Roy to get sick on the eve of their North American tour in support of Poetry for the Poisened, but if anyone can fill in for Khan it's Michael; in fact, and no disrespect to Roy, Michael being one of my favorite singers, in a weird backwards sort of way, this makes the set at PPUSA this year a unique and special one...

Blabbermouth... Fuck those people.
FTFY ;)

Seriously though, as much as people are going to be disappointed that Khan has to sit the tour out, and certainly concerned about his health, I'm pretty sure we're in for an absolutely awesome performance. I'd rather get excited about the prospect of seeing something we'll probably never see again than dwell on the disappointment.

Hell yes!
Life happens, we deal.

Those blabbermouth and twitter peeps can just lose the hate and be thankful the entire tour wasn't cancelled. Of course, I bet if they cancelled the same people would be complaining about that too. There's just no pleasing some folks.

First n' most importantly, I hope Roy Khan's illness is nothing serious and he recovers quickly....

I saw that he fell ill and I think my heart fell to my feet... but then it flew into my throat and I said "HELL YEAH!!!" when I read they were carrying on with Mike singing... Both Roy and Mike front my favorite bands so this is a real treat for me personally...

Again, a super speedy recovery to Roy and the best of luck to Mike and Kamelot on tour!!!! It'll be great!!!!

and all the haters out there can suck it... with all due respect :)
