Great music, sh*tty band name

Probably because it's Neige...I mean the guy broke up his band because his girlfriend was jealous of the girl bandmember. It's just funny to use him as a reference.

Well besides you also missing the point, I didn't even know that's why Amesoeurs broke up. I'm not even sure where you heard that or if that's true. That seems like silly conjecture to me, and one of the worst reasons to ever break up a band. If that is true... then wow....

(Warning: about to go uber-dork) I've always figured that Pink Cream 69's name went tounge and cheek with bands like Mother Love Bone and Pearl Jam. MLB being a reference to the penis, PJ to semen, and PC69 to vaginal secretions.

I have WAY too much time on my hands.......

YUP YUP YUP! Language barrier abominations. Everyone in a while, a j-pop or j-rock song gets dubbed into English and it's the most cringeworthy thing ever. hahaha

I'm a big fan of all three of these bands:

1. Edguy...this one has already been answerd
2. Tad Morose...what the hell is a Tad Morose?
3. Brainstorm...it just doesn't fit a "metal" band imo.

All three of those names leave me scratching my head!

~Brian~

I totally agree. I'm pretty sure that King Diamond was originally in a band called "Brainstorm" too before joining Fate hahaha, I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know about Brainstorm, but I know that King was in a band called The Brats, before MF. The Brats being a punk band though.

Brainstorm (1974–76). Just looked it up. Hahaha... such a cheesy name.

Another awful name for a band that alot of people (not me though) think is good: Soilwork. I think Wichers said he called it Soilwork because it's supposed to reference the idea of working from the ground up, but yeah, such bad Sweglish.

Another awful Swedish band name: Nirvana 2002. It's become an iconic name within the underground metal scene, and technically they WERE the first Nirvana, before Cobain and the like, but only added the 2002 because they didn't want to get into a lawsuit and it was a dumb choice. I hate when bands do that. Rhapsody adding the "of Fire" is also awful.

I know that I should probably reserve judgment until they actually release some music, but "Symfonia" is one of the most painfully generic band names I've ever heard of...

Well for one thing, considering that this is a musical discussion I thought it would make sense. For another, the fact that Fairyland is a French band (or at least the main guy from Fairyland is French), is also why I used Neige (a Frenchman). Figured you could put 2 and 2 together.

Second of all, I can full-well distinguish opinion from fact. Actually if anything, it's you that fails to make that distinction. Forum search where I said you're not entitled/don't have the right to an opinion. Just like you have the right to it, I have the right to express mine, which is that I've seen alot people say Fairyland is a bad name but I don't think so at all. And I think saying it because you think fairies are girly is like saying I don't like sushi because it's not American. So are you asserting that I cannot think that way just because YOU think Fairyland is a shitty name? Hmm.

And it's cool you think CoF is a cool name. Why would I ever try to take that away from you? When have I ever tried to?

If you have an international audience, having FAIRY on your name is a bad choice. If the French interpret it in a different way, good for them. At least in one country their name won't suck. 200 more to go.

The great irony of all this is, I wasn't even calling the name shitty for the reasons he assumes. I was calling it shitty for the same reason I would likely poke fun of a band if their name was Hobbitworld or Orkcity. Granted, the name fails for other reasons as well, despite protestations from our french brethren.

As an aside, Fairyland's "Score to a New Beginning" is a fantastic disc. Perhaps Glenn can have an all shitty band name night at a future PP. :loco:

Whether or not it's good for business is completely different from what's being discussed. The main reason why that's a separate discussion is because alot of bands don't really care about having an audience. I don't think Rotting Christ cares for example that their name is offensive to so many people.

This is a discussion on the artistic decision of a band's name, not whether or not a band's name has hurt its success.

Pretty Maids....doesn't really inspire thoughts of metal music.

You're right, Pretty Maids are awesome, one of my fave bands, but the band name sucks bad. I would not see myself wearing one of their t-shirts just because of the band name, which is far to be "metal".

Pink Cream 69 is not a very good name either, but the music rocks mightily...

Doesn't matter. "Fairyland" has other connotations than just D&D nerd-dom. In European countries it can connote to the idea of a dream world, etc (Hence my Neige example). To us, we consider it to be a part of the LOTR-verse, but not everyone else. That's what I was saying.

It's safe to assume that pretty much any band has 'good' reasons for choosing their name. Cultural reasons, references to other media, etc. Just because they had a reason doesn't mean it was a good reason. Trying =/= success. Fairyland can have all the connotations it wants in the French culture. To any other culture, it's a dumb name. This isn't Political Correctness 101...don't need to run each and every band name through wikipedia to see what possible culture it may or may not refer to. It's deciding which names are not good names for metal bands!!

I'm going to start a band called Butthash. It has meaning and integrity to me. Anyone who thinks it is a shitty name is insensitive.

Got the point just fine, just didn't care. It's pretty funny. The statement was somewhere on the Amesouers site. Not sure if it's still up. I'm sure it can be found somewhere online.

Black metal drama!

But that isn't what you said. You were quite specific in that my ignorance was based on the fact that I only understood the word within its place in American slang.

And just for chuckles and grins, how would a "dreamworld" be less LOTR?
