Now Annette out of Nightwish

Ok, can't hold bACK on this... Annette was a fucking joke! To even begin to compare her to Floor Jansen is fucking insane! That reedy whiny voice destroyed Nightwish. Now they have a chance to regain some fans...Hell, I flew all the way down to Atlanta to see thursdays show and walked out after 4 Nightwish songs...Annette hurt me that much! I'm sure she has a lovely voice that will fit in somewhere, just not Nightwish. Floor Jansen...she destroys everything in her mighty path!

When I saw Nightwish with Tarja about 8 years ago, they played at a club in the rat warrens of downtown Denver called Cervantes. Little tiny joint that maybe could hold 600 people. On Friday, they played at the freshly remodeled Ogden. Tickets to the VIP booths/front section were sold out, and for those of us in the back it was a tough job to see over the heads of everybody. The place was packed so tight that you couldn't even headbang without hairslapping somebody, and this was after I finally settled for the balcony after a vain attempt to see the stage from the floor. From my perspective, "regaining" fans doesn't seem to be much of an issue for them, as their fanbase in Colorado seems to have at least tripled in size since the singer change.

As an aside, I saw maybe a dozen or so people leave Friday when they played with Elize, out of the couple thousand that attended (not very good at judging crowd sizes, but 2,000 or so is my best guess). I didn't hear a whole lot of people complaining after the show either, most people gave them credit for doing what they could in a shitty situation. Most people were asking me "So, wait, that chick has her own band? What's it called?"

Bye Bye Beautiful. It may not have the effect on it but it's basically the same beat.

For that matter, "Bless the Child", "Astral Romance" and "Gethsemane" use pretty much the same beat as both of those. I'm sorry, but if that's pop, then Nightwish have been pop since day 1.

nah, I wish I had and angel and bye bye beautiful have distinctly dance music style beats. kick drum on down beat quarter notes, hat on 8th notes, snare on 2 and 4 of the measure. You can't say the same for the other two tracks you brought up.

Some more info on Floor's blog here. Looks like her prep. really was pretty minimal. The excellent professionalism is yet another thing I enjoy about the metal community. I just can't imagine anything like this happening in pop music. Sadly, I feel that the level of bile directed at Anette doesn't fit well here. I know it's the 'net which can surely tend in the hate-machine direction, but I'd rather focus on the upside and just support the hell out of Floor.

"Club drums." When they were released, I was kind of surprised by how cravenly designed for radio play these particular tracks were (and how little I liked them compared to other tracks on those albums, despite the fact that they both have Marco-sung choruses, which I usually like), but it's worked for the band, I guess.

LOL holy shit, ouch.

Yeah, I read the statement elsewhere. I'm not shocked by it, given how they ousted her. If that happened to me, I wouldn't be in a hurry to come back either.

Really, the fanbase needs to move on. Tarja seems to be doing just fine without Nightwish, and it is obvious that Tuomas wants to move away from the lead singer being the focus.

Floor Jansen was already preparing to join Nightwish on the road in November

As more details come out, it both clarifies certain things (ie, how Floor could step in and do a decent job on what seemed like ridiculously short notice) and raises certain questions (such as why they were going to use Floor beginning in November)...very interesting.

Yea, I am still a bit confused............

1) Did Annette know that Floor was rehearsing to join the band on the road starting in Nov? In other words, were there upcoming dates she knew she couldn't commit to?

or

2) Were the band already planning on canning her, depending on how things went with this tour, and was protecting upcoming commitments by asking Floor to essentially "get prepared"?

I assume the Nov through Jan dates are in Europe where they sell more albums and tickets. Maybe they just used the US tour as Annette's "last chance"

is that important?

too me it sounds like they knew it was coming and this was her last chance.

is that important?

Is what important?
Whether or not the band had a preconceived plan on being ready to go whenever they gave Annette the axe???

Well, I guess its a matter of opinion.

Sure, they have to protect the brand. I get it.

The woman is still a human being though.

Seems to me the ink was just drying on her pink slip but her termination date came up sooner than expected.

I know it's business. I think the reason no one is bringing in any human spirit element into this is because obviously very few liked her fronting NW.

Indeed. You don't just have a singer get upset about the way one show was handled and then bolt unless there's already a lot of tension. Same reason why you don't have a singer ready to bolt halfway across the world with one phone call.

is that important?

I think it's a matter of normal human curiosity than importance, really. People get curious. Especially considering we're talking about the metal fans (those who want to know everything there is to know about the bands they like). Nothing wrong with that.

Just wondering could this have been the result of a medical problem that was known about thus having Floor take over in Nov, and the first part of the US tour kinda aggravated it to the point where Anette couldn't continue, just a thought. I mean I don't know, just a thought.

Yes, that would explain it, except that the subtle sniping going back and forth on Saturday/Sunday seems to indicate some personal tension. If it was a health issue first and foremost, I think they would have put out a press release saying so and clearing everything up. I think Toumas saw the writing on the wall and was ready for a worst-case backup without telling Annette. He had a backup. There aren't many nice ways you can inform somebody "somebody else is here waiting to do your job at a moment's notice".

Right, I mean, that was part of my curiosity.
Maybe Annette already knew that Floor was "ready to go" in the event that she would not be able to carry out her duties. I mean, per Floor, she was already slotted to front the band starting in Nov. Just curious if this was a fact known to Annette or not.

I know most will say who cares because they prefer Floor vocally to Annette.

We'll probably never know, unless Annette comes out with another statement on the matter, in response to Floor letting the world know she was going to front the band starting in Nov.
