Always enjoy the speculation these "guess the roster" threads generate, if for no other reason that it gives me new bands to check out. And I've been out of the concert loop for nearly two years largely due to a move to South America. Events have once again conspired to force me to miss what will be my 3rd ProgPower USA in a row and let me tell you this gets tougher every year. I suppose I could be greedy and wish for performers drawn from those who have graced the stage for those ProgPowers I've had to miss! But shame on me for even thinking that!
I don't know that I could even hazard meaningful guess list so perhaps a sort-of wish list will suffice and maybe I might actually get one right (my track record with guessing the line-ups is notoriously terrible).
Cheers to the Saga recommendation above.... would love to see them on a Wednesday or Thursday (Nathan.... please!) show. Saw them exactly once with the original line-up way back in 1982 so it has been too long. I think these guys would be well received.
Though Glenn, when I inquired about it a few years back, told me they weren't a real good fit for the festival (Friday and Saturday events), I'd love to see Arena in a Wednesday or Thursday show too. Of course I may be the only one who'd like that but who knows?
I wonder if Spock's Beard would go over well at all or even if they are still doing anything. Yes, I'm THAT out of touch....
Well more to the heavier side of our program....
I'd love to see Ihsahn come back. What a show that was! And if it means Leprous get to do a little something something as well, I would not complain.
In Extremo would be fun too see again (saw them on one of the 70000 Tons of Metal cruises) but not sure how a group that does not sing in English would go over.
Amorphis would be really good to see again, too.
Are Karnivool still around and doing anything? Our friends in Voyager might know about that. Saw Karnivool at SXSW in Austin a few years back and loved them.
Korpiklaani may be a gimmick to many but damn that would be some beer-fueled fun jumping around for their set.
Redemption. I've always enjoyed them immensely.
Anyone think Agalloch would be a good fit for the festival or one of the opening days?
One odd-ball that would engulf the night in pure darkness (in a good way) would be Triptykon but that might not fit most tastes. But I'd love to see them.
Blind Guardian.
King Diamond, though he's been quite active touring recently and has more in the very near future, could put on a good "special" setlist show with his discography!
I would so love to see Tiamat now that it has been announced that they will working again. In fact I would REALLY love to see them.
And since I've taken up too much of your valuable time and space, I'll leave it at that. Thanks for letting me ramble..... cheers from Medellin, Colombia!
