What band that has not play PP would you like to see

I am not saying first tier are headliners...

Anubis Gate and Revamp deserve a second or third slot...

My second tier bands would be openers.

So we had a miscommunication. I was under the impression that everyone was posting their 1st tier bands as in "Bands that should headline or take a 4th slot). 2nd tier bands would be intermediate and 3rd tier the lowest spots.

Ok then that makes sense. The original criteria was first tier are slot 5 or 6, second tier slot 3 or 4, and third tier slot 1 or 2. Thus the confusion. Thank you for clarifying.

I am not saying first tier are headliners...I am saying I would LOVE to see them...with second tier meaning "it would be cool to have them here, but I aint pissing myself if I read that announcement"

Let's dissect and come up with an idea of what First Tier actually means.

For all intents and purposes, "First Tier" would not just imply a band you want to see or a select few forum members want to see, the "First Tier" bands are the bands that headline, the bands that sell all the tickets, the bands that get people to travel, the bands that make it special. I love some of the bands listed thus far as 1st tier, but would sadly say no to them as First Tier. When they were active, I would hardly call Lost Horizon a first tier band. Brilliant, yes. Superlative even. But...they do not have the broad audience that an Angra, Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, or even an Amorphis have.

And let's face it: there aren't that many first tier bands left that HAVEN'T played already. We'd have to dig deep. Either Glenn gets a "First Tier" band that's been around since the '60s/'70s/'80s (Saxon, Pretty Maids, Scorpions, Manowar, etc.), he gets one of the very very few remaining big name power metal bands (Rhapsody, Demons & Wizards, Grave Digger, Running Wild), he somehow manages to get something impossible (probably Avantasia, Ayreon/Star One, Control Denied reformation/reunion), or starts to branch out to other forms of metal (a la Arcturus...bands like Ihsahn, Opeth, Pardise Lost, Anathema), or get rid of headliners altogether (not likely).

I think losing the pool of "First Tier" bands would spell the end of this festival, honestly. If we continue to have repeats, it ceases to be special. Sure, the core group (this forum) would support it in just about every form, but the ticket-buying public would be hard pressed to see 12 bands they've already seen before at a festival in Georgia.

I think that as Glenn runs out of big-name bands who haven't already played, the "new wave" of first tier/headliner bands are going to be former fan favorites coming back to headline and play longer sets than they previously played.

2nd Tier

ASKA
Dark Water
Dark Moor
Myrath
KingCrow

Except on a very cold day in hell for Dark Moor, none of these would be 2nd tier bands, and putting DM up there is even a stretch.

3rd Tier

Tesseract

The boat for Tesseract being a 3rd tier band has sailed long ago...
Once their full length gets released they immediately will be popular enough to turn down whatever offer Glenn throws their way for 3rd tier spots.

I was pumped to read this thread about tiers instead of just names. Sucks that was lost along the way...

In my case, unless it is an obvious name -- Saxon for example -- I honestly have no idea how to slot these bands beyond the headliner. And even that is a guess at times. I may think a given band is super popular or, conversely, way too obscure/unpopular -- and be well off-base. While slotting (I'd wager) is not an exact science you seem to have it down very well using your own criteria that you've likely evolved over time. For the layperson like me, I admit I don't really know how to start (as my line-up guesses for your VIP badge contest will attest).

I could so see a Sentenced reunion being a headliner, I would love that, and I think that Dark Moor would have to atleast be a 2nd Tier band because they have sssoooooooo many albums and they have enough of a fan base with in the genre to be atleast a 3rd slot band.

Claus, just curious about this - why would that be the case? Admittedly, I don't know much about Tesseract other than I remember Glenn posting a clip and it being enjoyable (but not on the top of my priority list ).

I think Dark Moor could be in a 3rd slot. They've been around since what 1994? They have 8 full length albums, granted the first 3 are with a female singer. But they certainly have enough quality material to warrant a 3rd slot.

Because they have something behind them now that most newcomer bands only dream about ... a HUGE promotion operation ready to roll the moment their new album drops. And by that I don't just mean from their record labels side, but also from the street teamers and random fans out there.

They have tapped into one of the fastest growing sub genres in metal these days, and even before their full length is out, they are a leader in the genre. It's crazy how much buzz this band is getting and will be getting over the coming years if all goes according to plan.

Tesseract took the time to build up their name in the underground, and once their full length comes out, there's not much stopping them.

Again, that's my opinion, and I might very well be wrong and the album could completely flop and be a turd noone wants to touch ...
