Anyone who thinks anything decent will be out between now and Christmas, has stopped sitting on Santa's knee, and is now sitting on Santa's lap.
Also, please note that since many people in New Jersey can't determine the number five, as in years passed; you can now list your favorite top seven.
Have a great time!

ps. and as an extra bonus, please list your favorite dog
(read worst cd )
I don't need hate mail from the Management.

OK I'll bite.

1 The Raven That Refused To Sing- Steven Wilson
2 Paraiso- Subsignal
3 In Crescendo- Kingcrow
4 The Interpreter- My Soliloquy
5 English Electric Part Two- Big Big Train
6 Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep- Spock’s Beard
7 Harvest Moon- Votum

Favorite Dog: The Minstel's Ghost- The Road To Avalon (still for sale at ProgEars)

Top 7 is tough, there's so many..I'll try:
1) Circle of Illusion - "Jeremias - Foreshadow of Forgotten Realms" (cinematic prog rock/metal)
2) Dream Theater- "Dream Theater"
3) Withem- "The Point Of You" (melodic prog metal at it's best, in your face, powerful, addicting.)
4) Saffire- "From Ashes To Fire" (hard rock/progressive at times, thee most over looked disc of the year)
5) Illusion Suite- "The Iron Cemetery"
6) Tritonus- "Prison Of Light" (traditional prog metal, been waiting many years for this..HUGE FANBOY)
7) Lux Aeterna- "Echoes From Silence" (Female fronted killer prog metal. One of the best produced albums of the year)

*** bonus fave since I'm new to it is Chronos Zero- "Prelude Into Emptiness" (this might be top 5 quickly as this is in non-stop rotation.Fans of aggressive, power/prog metal take note. This is also complimented with an amazing production! a MUST BUY!)

In no particular order. Although I thought Anathema would probably take #1, it's really neck and neck now with the new Hell, which is just outstanding. Two totally different types of music, Hell and Anathema, but two sparkling releases. I also edited my list at the end to add two more releases that really deserved a mention.

Hell - Curse & Chapter (CD/DVD)
Michael Schenker - Bridge the Gap
Black Star Riders - All Hell Breaks Loose
Ayreon - The Theory of Everything
Anathema - Universal (Box set with 2CD - full show)
Thought Chamber - Psykerion
Riverside - Shrine of New Generation Slaves
Subsignal - Paraiso
Blackmore's Night - Dancer and the Moon (this album is more electric than eclectic - probably Ritchie's best stuff in quite some time)

Dog: Airbag - Greatest Show on Earth (the most boring CD of the year hands down) - Woof!!

I can't hang with the disco bits or the Broadway schmaltz. It was ambitious but over reaching. Would have made a nice 40 minute disc.

So many good albums this year.

My pick for "Album Of The Year" goes to one of my favorite bands:

Anathema - "Universal" (4 disc boxset)

Not an easy decision to make. Top 10 would be better, but forced to pick only 7, mine would be:

1) Ayreon - The Theory of Everything
2) Haken - The Mountain
3) Spock's Beard - Brief Nocturnes & Dreamless Sleep
4) Subsignal - Paraiso
5) Tesseract - Altered State
6) The Flower Kings - Desolation Rose
7) Protest The Hero - Volition / Vangough - Between the Madness (these two are good enough to tie)

If the next Phideaux manages to come out before the end of the month, it may bump one of these, but I don't see that happening.

Bird and buildings - Multipurpose Trap
Leprous - Coal
Thought Chamber - Psykerion
Progenesi - Ulisse : L'Alfiere Nero
Chrome Hoof - Chrome Black Gold
Mirthkon - Snacks
Caillou - S/T
Unit Wail - Retort
Anciients - Heart of Oak
Grand General - S/T
Keep It Deep - Hatching
OMB - SwineSong
The Ocean - Pelagial

The Dog - Ihsahn - Das Seelenbrechen

Finally put together my top 7. I only consider new studio albums:

1. Wilson, Steven - The Raven That Refused to Sing (and other stories)
2. Wrong Object, The - After the Exhibition
3. Magenta - The Twenty Seven Club
4. Progenesi - Ulisse L'alfiere Nero
5. Soma White - Soma White
6. Echoes of Giants - At the End of Myself
7. Guapo - History of the Visitation

Top 7 is near impossible for 2013. It was simply one of the best recent years in terms of outstanding releases. So I'll cheat a little and post my Top 10... :heh:

In no particular order:

Airbag - The Greatest Show On Earth
Avatarium - Avatarium
Cosmograf - The Man Left In Space
Fates Warning - Darkness In A Different Light
Katatonia - Dethroned & Uncrowned
Kerrs Pink - Mystic Spirit
Orphaned Land - All Is One
Resonance Room - Untouchable Failure
Votum - Harvest Moon
Wilson, Steven - The Raven That Refused To Sing
