Okay, I saw this on the "oh my god, what do you MEAN you've never heard of 'em" thread and it got me curious... Just how many discs do you buy in an average month? How many others do you download/borrow/receive for free/otherwise hear?

I buy a good 20+ Cds a month and receive a good deal of promos (not from Nuclear Blast, though!) :loco:

I'm WELL under the 20 mark... I guess I buy a couple of CDs a month on average... usually in spurts. I.e., I might buy none this month and buy 6 or 7 next month. I probably listen to another couple a month but have a habit of getting way behind on this and having to burn through several CDs in one or two weeks just so I can make some progress through my pile. :)

How about y'all?

i never buy cd's...always trying to save money and never able...sucks...
but i did just get a box of 30 from a good friend of mine... of course they are not all to my liking but it gives me a chance to listen to other shit too... :)

Interesting question...I'm sort of like you, where I tend to buy in batches. I might go a month or three without buying any, then I'll put in a $200+ order at The Laser's Edge or somewhere, then it might be a month or two before I actually get through them all. After that month or two, lather, rinse and repeat. :)

I buy everything, BTW...the only time I download stuff is to preview it. If I like it, I buy it. If I don't like it, I don't listen to it anymore.

I don't buy as many as I have on my list to check out...but I also have less time to listen these days and soak in the music. If I buy too many I dont end up giving each disc their fair attention.
Im on par with a few a month or so, depending on what comes out. This month, for example, I have purchased 5-6 already and Im waiting for my Devin Townsend Band to be sent (yahooooo!)...bands would have to stop releasing albums in order for me to catch up at this point ;)

On average i usually buy 6-10 a month, i never download music except short clips to preview(too many worms and viruses out there), and then i sometimes get little presents from two sources. One here in the USA, and from a friend of mine in Greece who owns a couple of music stores in Athens and Glyfada. Thank God most of the music i listen to my two daughters enjoy also so that cuts down on the $$$ spent.

I'm lucky on this one. I work for a rock/metal magazine in Texas called Harder Beat Magazine. (www.harderbeat.com) We get LOTS of promos from a wide variety of lables each month. Most of our writers have differant musical tastes so I rarely have much trouble getting most of the power/prog promos. One other writer has similar tastes but if he hears something I might like, he'll burn me a copy. This guy also buys tons of CD's and once again if he hears something I'd like, he'll burn me a copy. I also have a friend with a music store that specializes in power metal. He'll play stuff and sometimes burn stuff for me because he knows if I like what I hear, I'll buy it. Most promo's come without the artwork/booklet/lyrics which I like to have and try to get autographed so anything I hear that I like whether a burn or a promo, I always buy the full CD in the end to get the lyrics and artwork.

There are some months I don't buy any CDs and there are some I'll buy 10. I also tend to buy a lot at the dealers tables at PPUSA or BW&BK and I dropped a ton of cash at Impulse Music during Chicago PowerFest. Overall I usually buy CDs online and look for the best deals. I mostly buy from Amazon.com

Way to damn many! I have approx 2000 original factory pressed cd's with dozens of them being Japanese releases. I could put a down payment on a house with the money I have spent on music. But as far as I'm concerned, it was and still is worth it as these musicians bring me so much joy through their music. I will always continue to support true music, done from the heart and with pride. I got a bit off topic here, but screw it; I'm passionate about this music. Anyway, approx 10 a month!

Too many CD's a month. This month of January, a 248% increase on this number thanks to the infamous ProgPower USA Official Forum user Torn2Shred.

Please, do not provide people with the address of that store I dare not mention the name in New Jersey. lol

lol, it's okay... I feel the same way. Life without music... egad. Besides, just get a zero-down deal and you can have the house, too. ;)

And just to clarify, because I feel fairly strongly about this issue, too... I, too, buy the stuff I like that I hear from a download or burned copy. It may take me a couple of months to get around to it, but get around to it I do. :)

Hmm, I usually do about 5-10 per month anymore. If I get to a city with a decent cd shop, I could up that to about 20 per month. I've been stuck around the 4000 cd mark lately because I've been into buying the limited box sets and such. One Nuclear Blast order sets me back about $200 once shipping is on, so I don't buy as many individual cds after that.
