I have often thought about who I would have in a dream prog/power style band and here it is. The only thing I say in response is one person from a band only, and other metal bands outside these genres can be used as well, as long as it is not those "metal" bands who went to the Cobain School of Three Power Chords Now I'm A Star and whose vocals doesn't sound like authentic satanic frontier jibberish.

Vocals: Mathias Blad (Falconer)
Guitarists: Herman Li (DragonForce)
John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Magnus Karlsson (Primal Fear)
Bassist: Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
Keyboardist: Jens Johansson (Stratovarius)
Drummer: Jaska Raatikainen (Children of Bodom)

I think that is a pretty solid line-up, now have some fum with this!!!!

Could probably make 50 different variations of this but from the top of my head...

Vocals - Patrik Johansson (Astral Doors)
Guitar 1 - Matthias IA Eklund (Freak Kitchen)
Guitar 2 - Christer Andersson (Tad Morose)
Guitar 3 - Joachim Küstner (Iron Savior)
Bass - Pete Trewavas (Marillion)
Drums - Ludde Witt (Firebird, Spiritual Beggars)
Keyboards - Martin Hedin (Andromeda)

Vocals - Sir Russell Allen (Symphony X)
Rhythm Guitars - Jon Shaffer (Iced Earth)
Lead Guitars - Victor Smolski (Rage)
Keyboards - Kevin Moore (Ex Dream Theater)
Drums - Richard Christy (Ex-Death)
Bass - Chris Breeze (Vision Divine, Ex-Labyrinth, Ex-Dragonforce)
Cowbell - Will Ferrell (Ex-Not-Really-Blue-Oyster-Cult)

Prog.

Vocals: Russell Allen
Guitars: John Petrucci
Keyboards: Rick Wakeman
Bassist: Eh, who cares
Drums: Mike Portnoy

Vocals - Zak Stevens or John West... oh hell both
Bass- Ricardo Windany- MINDFLOW
Drums- Rahael Pensado - MINDFLOW
Guitar - Jorn Viggo Lofstad - Pagan's Mind
Guitar - Mattias "IA" Eklund - Freak Kitchen
Keyboards - Tuomas Holopanien - Nightwish

Prog.

Vocals: Russell Allen
Guitars: John Petrucci
Keyboards: Rick Wakeman
Bassist: Eh, who cares <---???
Drums: Mike Portnoy

For someone that is into prog, you should know better, if you weren't kidding. Everyone spot in the band is important.

BTW, you make some great choices there. I would have picked 3 of the 4 that you did. But, I would have Jordan Rudess on Keyboards and either John Myung, Tony Levin or Ed Platt on Bass.

Mine already exists, and they did two cds together, Visions from the Spiral Generator, and The Focusing Blur.

Vintersorg - vocals/keys/sampling/guitar
Asgeir Mickelson - drums
Steve DiGiorgio - bass
Mattias Marklund - guitar

All they needed to do was add some Loomis guitar solos in there and they would be set, hehe.

Hmmm....I'd probably go with:

Vocals: Daniel Gildenlow (Pain of Salvation) or Roy Khan (Kamelot)
or Mike Eriksen (Circus Maximus)
Lead Guitar: John Petrucci (Dream Theater) or Tore Ostby (ex-Conception)
Rhythm Guitar: Alex Lifeson (Rush) or Tore Ostby (ex-Conception)
Bass: Troy Tipton (Zero Hour) or Tony Levin
Drums: Paul Craddick (ex-Enchant) or Alex Arellano (ex-Power of Omens)
Keyboards: Rick Wakeman (Yes), Gunther Werno (Vanden Plas),
or Matt Guillory (ex-Dali's Dilemma, James LaBrie's band)

That was really tough, especially the "no more than one person from any one band" requirement. I struggled quite a bit to pare it down to a single member each from Dream Theater and Zero Hour.

My picks weren't just from a musicianship/style perspective...songwriting style/skill were also considered. There's some SERIOUS songwriting talent in that list, methinks...

Good call on Tore Østby & Troy Tipton! I knew that I was forgetting other possibilities.

Vocals - Greg Analla - Seventhsign, Tribe of Gypsies
Guitars - Rusty Cooley - Outworld
Bass - John Myung - Dream Theater, Platypus, The Jelly Jam, Gordian Knot
Keys - Vitalij Kuprij - Artension
Drums - Tomas Haake - Meshuggah

Wow, what a great idea for a thread.

Guitar: God (Old Testament)
Vocals: Jesus (Post Ressurection)
Keyboards: Virgin Mary
Drums: The Devil

My band would be called ... "Rawr."

Wow, I need to make some decisions:

OK, here we go:

VOCALS: Ronnie James Dio (Dio/Rainbow/Elf/Heaven and Hell)
BASS: Marco Hietala (Nightwish/Tarot)
LEAD GUITAR: John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
RHYTHM GUITAR: Jani Liimatainen (ex-Sonata Arctica)
DRUMS: Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden)
KEYS: Jens Johannsson (Stratovarius/Mastermind)

I dunno, I thought LaBrie did a good job in Ayreon. ;)

Just my personal opinion... LaBrie is the weakest link in the band and Live just doesn't hold up well. I have seen DT 13 times and I'd say he only meet my expectations 4 or 5 times. I can just hear DC singing these songs and doing a fine job. The two times I have seen DC he was incredible and flawless... just my three cents:saint:
