Roy says hello to the doubters...

Honestly, I don't blame Khan at all. I blame Thomas Y

Honestly, I don't blame Khan at all. I blame Thomas Y and metal fans in general for putting too much emphasis on a metal "look".

Personally I don't care, just think it is funny.
However considering the "look" and understanding why it is important you have to understand the sub-culture first. No one wants to know that their heroes go home and do what average people do, nor do they want to see behind the illusion or be betrayed. To find out that these figures are not real and just posing shatters that illusion. It is also a betrayal, as if this person was never genuine. I'm sure Deena Weinstein would agree on this.

Maybe it was a joke; Tomas said hey we can get Roy to wear this, Roy well do anything.

You have to understand that Manowar came from an era win which rock star and bands did dress up, the Dolls, KISS, Alice Cooper, Thor, Zolar X, Twisted Sister, etc it was part of what was happening and what you did. None of these guys were being posers to "fit in". Something about fake tats and now topped with a wig just seems a little poser-ish to me, and Roy even pretty much admits it.

I see no difference, it is about cultivating a professional stage image with clothing that will heighten their appeal to their target fan base. Not sure I can judge either as more or less "genuine". For Manowar it was appealing to the masculine alpha male and perpetuating a paradigm of stereotypical "toughness" as the one correct image. For Kamelot it is about playing up the gothic imagery that appeals to a certain demographic (younger, female etc).

I don't say any of the above in a pejorative way. I guess I have been a music fan too long to care about image one way or the other. I would prefer if all bands would dress on stage like Rush does (now). But I don't really knock a band for cultivating an image or stage presence through dress. I don't let either detract from my enjoyment of a band.

Edit: Ultimately I agree with you the tat sleeve is kinda silly, but I shake it off pretty quickly for the reasons I stated above.

I've never heard of this Twisted Sister vs Manowar thing until now. I would be willing to bet it was all in good fun. Mark Mendoza (Twisted Sister) and Ross the Boss (Manowar) were in the Dictators together BEFORE there was Twisted Sister or Manowar

edit: I see someone already mentioned them being in the Dictators together.

I don't really see the problem with the "fake tattoo sleeves" shirt. I am pretty sure he didn't go wearing it around off stage after the shows. this was like ANY OTHER stage attire bands wear and more importantly I imagine it was one of those "tribal" fake sleeve tat shirts which is more for show on stage. Doesn't make him a poser if it's part of a costume in my book.

I don't wanna beat the guy up cause he's so damn talented, but stuff like this is pretty funny and needs to be called out.

Wig/weave

CONCEPTION RULED. Glen has my back, but how people in this forum who don't like this band can listen to a song like this and call it "boring" is beyond me. He KILLS it vocally. This is the "modern" album QUEENSRYCHE should have made after Empire, but they didn't. I still hate i missed their reunion at Prog Power because my apartment burned down. One thing from that era in my life I truly regret, not the fire mind you, but missing Conception.

Sorry, this is bordering on really dumbness, but does anyone think its funny, in the context of recent posting events that Khan's name is Roy Khantatat?
Tat tat?
Con-Tat-Tat?

MY fist introduction to Conception was Flow and then worked my way backwards. I love that album still, though many thought it was garbage. I got Flow then 4th legacy and the rest of the Conception catalog before they went oop. I'm surprised they never reunited as parts of Burn the Sun seemed like they were written for Khan's vocal melodies.

/sorry bro I know you are a fan and all but it is still pretty lame. If you were not a fan you would have laughed your ass off at such a stunt.
Man I wish I could remember all of Jaime's comments on this subject so I could quote them, they were pretty hilarious.
Khan simply wore goat-leggings so he could fit in and if he never had he would have still fit in just fine.

Years ago in my early 20s, about fifteen or so I was out of touch with most power metal. At the time the only one interesting me was Iced Earth and that did not last long. Anyway a guy sent me a couplke of cassettes of several bands that I had heard the name of but had never heard them before, Kamelot, Angra, Conception, etc and this was my introduction to these bands. The guy said Kamelot were a lot like Crimson Glory, I have still not gotten that. Anyway I really could not get into any of these bands and I have tried many times. Now there were some 1990s power metal I could get into, and still feel ashamed over my brief fascination with Rhapsody, still Kamelot just can't get into it.
Damn I tried listening to Conception and Kamelot today and cut off both albums because of those mono-toned vocals.
Oddly I have CDs of all these bands...

Really, we're five pages in and still arguing about whether their image was real or fake? Come on, metalheads, let's stop for a second and think about what's more important; the metal, or what the people who make it look like. Khan could have worn bright orange spandex bodysuits with holes exposing his nipples and he still would have been a phenomenal singer in an amazing band. Image is secondary, whether they're forcing it or not.
