Showcase announcement. 1st 3 bands!!!!

Oh, even Encyclopaedia Metallum.... Then I stand corrected. It must then be a fact.

I'm not talking about the website itself, I'm also talking about the 15+ reviews of their various albums on that site, all by different people, where only ONE person says they are power, and he says they are power/prog. EVERY OTHER PERSON says they are progressive, melodic progressive, classically inspired progressive, etc... So I stand by my first point. Royal Hunt are about as power metal as Hammerfall is progressive. Just because DC Cooper sang for Royal Hunt AND Silent Force, doesn't make Royal Hunt power like Silent Force.

You are probably correct. I just find the genre debate so utterly childish I couldn't resist. Kinda reminds me of when I was in high school and tried do decide who to hang with, the Manowar metal heads or the Hanoi Rocks posers...

By the way, I chose the Manowar clan...

Amorphis would be an excellent encore act!

This......

From my fan side, yes; from Shane's business side.... maybe. With cheaper tickets than ProgPower it might pull some of the fans who weren't willing to pay the PPUSA ticket price to see them 2 years ago (and that weren't fans of the other bands on the roster). But it would be very risky.

But also this. Sadly, 'tis true.

Given the existing lineup for Thursday, I'd bet my Powerball ticket* that the headliner will be a big-drawing power-metal band.

This just confirms that we need bicycle jousting at ProgPower this year.
I would sponsor this.
How much?

I can bring the swords! :heh:

* a non-winning ticket, anyway :lol:

Kinda shocked at the lack of Redemption mentions. Maybe there's something I don't know about (which happens a lot), but it seems like the perfect win for me.

-Due to aforementioned issues (Nick's health, financial logistics, etc), the band can't really tour, so a well-planned, well-executed one-off show seems logistical. They are fast becoming a huge name in Progressive Metal, Snowfall on Judgment Day got the best reviews of any of their albums thus far, and they haven't played Atlanta since it was released. There's no doubt that the band has enough support in this demographic to rightfully headline this show (which they can't do anywhere else to a decent crowd), and it's a great example of a band that satisfies the Prog Metal folk but doesn't put off the Power Metal people too much. To me, it's the perfect situation.

If it's to be a big-name power metal act for Thursday night, let's see:
Freedom Call
Falconer
Blind Guardian
Seventh Avenue
Iron Fire
Savage Circus
Iron Savior
Sabaton

I'd be far beyond thrilled with any of those!

I love Falconer, but let's be realistic - they aren't exactly a "big name power metal act." It's unlikely they'll be headlining on Thursday. Sabaton or Blind Guardian would certainly draw for Thursday, though.

Iron Savior would depress me. They're nothing more than Judas Priest wannabees and bad ones at that. I couldn't handle their set at IX. I'd still go but would probably leave after Leprous.

If you're talking about big name headliner, why the hell do you only one (maybe two) headlining caliber bands on the list?

Freedom Call headlining? Come on now. That's like saying North Korea is a strong contender to win this year's World Cup.
