Uniting the Powers of Metal: East Coast Roll Call!!!

I had a great time at the show last night, despite not being able to stay for the entire Adrenaline Mob set. Widow was a happy surprise: I enjoyed the songs and the banter between them. Also, I'm looking forward to hearing how Creation's End sounds at Center Stage; they rocked at Jaxx. Haters gonna hate, but I also really enjoyed Adrenaline Mob. I didn't think it was possible to love Russ Allen more than I do when he sings SymX stuff, but I was wrong. So much contagious energy too. As I have said to a few folks already, I really hope Portnoy's ego doesn't ruin it for everyone. I guess naming the band Mike Portnoy's Ego Trip would have been too obvious. ;)

This is what i typed up before passing out after I got home at 3:30am and before forum maintenance took over

Foridian Ear Rape = Good. Not as good as German Ear Rape, but still pretty damn good. So yeah pretty small crowd.. about 20 people i guess would be roughly right eh Camden? By the time Widow at like midnight or whenever came on i think there was like 3-5 non staff/crew/band related people there and I was watching them with members of Seven Kingdoms and other various band members.

It was still a blast.

Seven Kingdoms
Sabrina has come a long way since I last saw her on the Blind Guardian tour last december. The only thing I could of asked for was for her vocals to be louder in the mix. In fact, low volume in vocals were my main "complaint" throughout the night.

Artizan
Coming in I wasn't too impressed with this band. I listening to the album I was like along the lines of "meh". There were things I liked but I just wasn't too psyched about it or something. Then they started to play. I believe I sent a text to a friend who had to work tonight saying something like "Artizan = talented fucks". I was watching the guitarist on on my left, then I had to switch to the guitarist to the right and then I had to watch the drummer. Man that drummer... just awesome. I still need a little time for the vocals but I liked them overall. For some reason I kept on thinking the vox were like a new fates warning meets the band 3.

Creations End
Ive liked these guys since they were announced as being a part of progpower. They have a bit of old Dream Theater - Awake kind of sound at times. My brains fried at the moment so this is gonna be it for them for now.

Widow
Right before they started playing they pointed to me and went "Okay! This concert is for you!" and then they started playing and the remaining people came in from the bar area. I enjoyed widow. However the only complaint I have with them is just that the songs seemed to end randomly. Maybe just me?

Thank you guys for putting on an awesome show even if it was to a small turn out. I got pics of Seven Kingdoms & Artizan... my battery died half way through Artizans set.

Oh and I think I saw Claus there too but I wouldn't know for sure as I was just going by his/your profile pic.

I am pretty excited about seeing all 4 bands tonight. Bringing my camera, but I no longer have a killer tele, so the best shots will be with my prime 50mm :( I'll just have to get up close... hopefully Camden's hair will not reach out its Medusa like coils and strangle me.

I am really stoked to hear that Seven Kingdoms is "improved" from the BG tour... since I thought they were damn awesome then. Triumphant Battle Fantasy Epic Slayer Metal RULES! Wait - maybe they can be part of the "Dragon Metal" as well... for the obvious reasons...

Glenn and I are planning on attending tonight's show.

~Jen

They're going to be doing a special Rebecca Black cover today, since it's Friday. Fiz, if you get the shots up somewhere let me know.

This would completely and totally blow my mind.

I haven't been to one of the Pathfinder shows in like 4 years but I'm making it out tonight. Nobody has any excuse.

Why would you not just go celebrate your birthday at the show with all your friends, and let's face it, much better music than at a boring Irish Pub would play? ;) Still plenty of time to change the plans!! :p

Samples. Got a bunch more for SK - Artizan not as much. For you photo folks thats just a simple Canon Powershot SD430 and all I did was just point and click (forum resize excluded)

I'm still getting used to my new Canon (well, new for me), but each show seems to get better. I may just set it for rapid shutter and scream "Damn the Torpedoes" (silently in my head, of course), and pray that the focus, light, and shutter speed gods all smile on me at the same time. If I shoot about 800-1000 frames, at least a few should come out okay.

Given the intimacy of the venues (and the lack of crowds?), the 50mm may do the job fine. Damn, but I wish I could justify the cost of faster tele glass...

Great shot of the bass player above, btw. I can't believe you got the flying hair in focus and non-blurred with a point n shoot!

Great show last night all the bands did awesome. The new Seven Kingdom songs sound incredible and Creation's End are amazing, so people are going to enjoy them at ProgPower.

Many thanks to the few forum regulars who could make it out last night. The bands truly appreciated the support, as did I. All I can say to everyone else is - if you weren't in the hospital or in jail and yet you missed it... you fuckin missed it!

All four of the touring bands put on a hell of a show. Kudos to each of them for being tight on stage and being true professionals to work with. I'd work with either Artizan or Creation's End again any day. And Widow & Seven Kingdoms - well, you're family now so I'm stuck working with you. :p hah hah. Love you guys (and gal!).

kudos also to Milton/AngraRules for setting up this short-run tour. It's pretty sad that these four high caliber prog/power metal acts had to endure playing to as few as 30-40 people in some places. Sure, there were week night performances. I have to work on weekdays myself. But for $10-$15 I think I could manage to show up at a venue and see at least 2-3 of the bands before crawling off into bed.

It takes support from the fans for these bands to travel up and down the road. I see so many people posting - and not just on this forum - about how there's never any good metal shows coming through town. Yet here we (the local fan/promoters) are beating down your door with a QUALITY list of bands and you still sit at home on the couch flipping channels complaining there's nothing to do tonight.

Sorry if I'm turning this into a bit of a rant. But dammit, I've been doing this for five years now and people wonder why the next Pathfinder MetalFest has the subtitle 'the Final Chapter'. Seriously, do you really have to wonder? :bah:

This work is a labor of love for people like Milton, Patrick (nailz), Camden, and myself. None of are getting rich off this work. Never planned to. We do it because we want to help the bands get in front of as many fans as possible. But when the fans become ho-hum about it, so do we. And it's not like we're asking you to come out every night of the week. I do these 'bigger' shows about once every three months. And I do local shows monthly. I don't spam the hell out of people to come out to the Local shows. But the bigger shows are kind of a big deal to [us].

I hope the Florida shows tonight and tomorrow have at least TWICE the attendance (about 75 paying people) we did last night. Because that's what I expected from the Atlanta metal community - the HOME OF FUCKING PROGPOWER USA! But I was let down - again.

I'll see you all in a few short weeks. ;)

they played two actually. And Atlanta is the only date that received one of those.

Glad you had a great time! :D Thanks so much for supporting the scene!

Thank you for coming to North carolina!! Second show of the year, $10 a ticket at the door, & I'd be visiting my brother who lives 8 minutes from the place (1hr 30min drive from greensboro). Why the hell would I not go?
