ProgPower USA IX picture thread

I'll have galleries of every band. Apologies for the slow turnaround time: I lost a week to unplanned business travel. Day jobs can be a pain, but can't live without one unfortunately.

JOP was the most challenging shoot because the photo pit stayed full of drunk and overly enthused people the whole time. :)

It was indeed a Small, Deadly Space. :heh:

LOL
Small, yess
Deadly... now that I think about it... YES!

I'm surprised though --last year the pit was at least twice as big and yet I still managed to trip and almost fall (a photographer saved me, don't know who... but they caught me). This year I survived without any complications, although I have gotten to know everyone around me by smell. Disturbing :ill:

Indeed! Consequently, I got very little photos that I really like of JOP and IE since I was stuck on one end and continuously jostled. Hopefully next year we might get a little more space. Last year was way better but I think that was because they were video taping?

The stage was expanded in the front by four feet out front to accomadate Helloween & Gamma Ray's techincial requirements, including a bigger drumriser. Thus, I had to squeeze the photo pit. I make absolutely NO promises about it being any bigger next year. I'm not trying to be a dick as I truly value my sponsors and the publicity I gain from the press, but the bands are my priority in this situation.

Understood. Thanks for the clarification.

Finished my Iron Savior set. I came away with exactly 11 Photo's I liked out of their whole set. I took around 90. It's a shame, because Piet kept putting the mic stand between himself and me, and lets face it, once you got one of Piet singing into the mic, you've got all you need. I got virtually nothing of Joachim worth mentioning, but Yens gave up some good shots. Still, disappointing. Dunno who I'm going to do next.

overly enthused, yes... but I was not drunk. :p

JOP was the only band I saw the entire set of for that matter, and only the last half from within the pit. I was facing stage left in between Matt and Jon. But yes, there were plenty of folks within the pit - more than is usual after song #2. I waited until after 'Stories' to head down there thinking it would be freed up some. I was wrong. :erk:

And I only went into the photo pit because I worked my ass off for more than 6 months piecing that tour together. I thought I deserved a little something for it. Little did I know that there would be literally a dozen others who thought they deserved something also, notwithstanding Glenn and the sponsor(s) of course.

Plus I had completely forgotten about the stage being expanded. Had I know it was going to be an ankle-breaking experience, I'd have stayed my happy ass in my seat. But I had already promised Jon that I'd be down there throwing horns and singing along with the songs.

:headbang:

ah well.

That might have been me...I remember catching someone from falling at least once. The back of those barricades can be tricky to navigate.

Glenn's already explained why the photopit was smaller this year...with luck, the stage won't be expanded next year and we'll be back to having a bit more room. Just a couple of feet makes a huge difference up there. :)

Excellent shots Esa!

Reminds me a bit of 'Predator' when i see the singer, heh.

Whish we had the stage lights (and size) at PP europe like you had in Atlanta. Working on the pics of day 2 right now (which was the worst day concerning the lights).

We had some hair flying around as well, but not as good as the amorphis singer.
