Say what you will about him, it's hard to imagine a more accomplished prog/metal vocalist based on his full catalog of work. Ray Alder is a close, close second and my personal favorite. His expressiveness and phrasing make him unique, but uniqueness often limits marketability an broad appeal, so I can understand the dislike. THe Conception albums are kind of hit or miss. If you take the best three tracks off each album and remixed, you'd have a classic.
It's funny seeing his tat shirt and the comments, but does anyone remember the wig he wore up until they recorded Parallel Minds? Is there anything, aside from his voice, that's genuine?

This is one of the TOP FIVE power metal records ever released (IMO) and it's because of ROY KHAN. He just sang what they told on his first Kamelot album but this is the one where he really got his input on melodies and you can tell immediately or it's possibly the band realized his full capabilities and wrote to his strengths, either way. You speak truth. I'm not into Euro inspired power much, but this and Labyrinth's Return to Heaven are the two best examples I can think of.
I have a hard time with Khan bashers, especially on the ballads. Just listen to the ballads. Songs like "Don't you cry" and "Abandoned" just give you chills, as the vocals are just so breathtakingly beautiful, AND nobody really sounds like him, unlike today's prog metal scene.

I'm trying to reconcile some of the derision for the role Khan played as lead singer for a brand, Kamelot, with the enthusiasm that has been shown Ghost on this board. Yes, fake tat sleeves as part of a costume seems silly to me, but so does wearing a cowl or dressing up like the anti-pope.

You are comparing apples and oranges sir. It's all an act/schtick and a production with Ghost. With this tattoo shirt, it was Khan or Khan's band trying to make him look more metal. There's a big difference.

One is pretty clearly a gimmick, the other is, for lack of a better term 'posing'.
To me, they're actors, putting on costumes for the roles they play. Sure, one is done tongue in cheek, but the underlying intent is the same. And rather than apples to oranges, would a better comparison be Spaceballs to Flash Gordon?
As I pointed out above, I think it is kind of silly, but I am not in a band trying to expand my listening base to the emo crowd. Of course, I am choosing to believe that Elize Ryd prances around her home in a catsuit and stilettos, so maybe I am not a great judge.
