Cheers 'n Jeers '12

Everyone's covered the bases in jeers, but I do have to send one big cheer to my roomies - Matt, Christina, and Su - for being very understanding about my situation (wound up with a herniated cervical disc two weeks before PP, and wasn't sure until about one week out that I could even make it to the fest), toting my suitcase up and down the stairs in the suite, letting me have the bed, and putting up with the occasional ow-I-hurt whining from me. Plus, you know, they're awesome in general and fun to spend an entire week with!

Also, did anyone cheer the guy who bought six boxes of pizza for the courtyard before we got the boot? Cheers to him, dammit, that was good pizza!

And the guy up front during Beyond the Bridge who said "hey, I'm tall, you can come stand in front of me if you want." That's rare, and a really nice thing to do.

Jeers:

As much as I hate to say it I have never had so many people begging for change or money this year as compared to all the years at PPUSA combined, its like the saw us coming from 2000 miles away or something :)

Wow, that's odd...I've never had an issue with this in 7 years of attending. There was one guy hanging out on the front porch of the Residence on Sunday who certainly didn't look like a guest...but he didn't bother anyone.

I was hoping for the Accolade suite.

Yes, when Russell mentioned something about "two songs", I was absolutely expecting Accolade I & II. But hey, The Oddyssey in its entirety? I went home happy! :kickass:

Jeers :
People Smoking !

I have a chronic issue with my eyes that is seriously aggravated by smoke, and I actually thought it was much, much better this year than in past years.

Cheers:

1 - MaYaN!! The reason I came this year, I was not disappointed. I couldn't even headbang half the time because I was just so blown away.

2 - Epica: Every time I see them is amazing, and this set was no different. Definitely wearing my PPUSAXIII shirt when I see them in D.C. next month!

3 - Primordial: Yes, I understand why you guys were on the bill!

4 - Redemption made a new fan out of me.

5 - Pretty Maids pulling off a 1-5-6-4 chord progression AND a Smoke on the Water cover... AT PROGPOWER. Mad props to you.

6 - Symphony X: I was a little surprised, as I was expecting them to pull some ancient song or never-play-live tune out of their asses, but it seemed like a regular set to them. But a regular set by Symphony X is always killer, so no complaints!

6 - Emppu Vuorinen, Mark Jansen and Michael Romeo for the guitar picks!

7 - Glenn and his crew for making it all happen

8 - Courtyard by Marriott for being a fine place to stay

9 - Chik Fil A for being cheap, edible, easy-to-order food within walking distance of the venue

JEERS:

1 - Security was inconsistent and a bit short with us, but I think they loosened up once they realized we're a pretty well-behaved crowd in general

2 - My back for deciding to hurt all weekend, requiring a constant/mild dose of painkillers to keep me going. Also my arm for still being sore from a flu shot.

3 - Flipping-off-SymX-guy, but he's making his amends, which deserves props.

4 - My bank account for not having enough money in it to buy things at the CD tables.

5 - Seven Kingdoms for not only bringing physical form to memes, but using them as a marketing ploy. Come on guys, you're better than that.

6 - This woman. No, your friend cannot hear thousands of watts of amps and PA system being picked up on a cell phone. Now put the damn phone away and shut the hell up as, unlike your friend, some of us paid $50 to see Nightwish for the first time ever:
Cheers

Lastly, a jeer to the entitled photographer that managed to annoy in the double digits of people (including multiple security guards). Between the phone calls, talking so loudly that people could not hear bands and grabbing a security guards ass, your behavior was annoying. Like I said, every security guard was rolling their eyes or complaining about your behavior. Also many fans up front had become aware by the behavior too. “oh yea, that person that was talking so loud I could hear them over the band”

Allen, Esa, and Stephen - House photographers. Fuck, you guys rule.

This. I forgot to thank Allen and Esa this year (sorry guys!). I didn't meet Stephen personally but I've seen his photos and they're stunning!

Oh, and another cheer I totally forgot - Nathan for sharing his cookies with the sponsors before one of the sets (forget which one). That was very nice of him. :)

Awwwww. You're welcome Jaime! I was happy to let you have the bed. It was a pleasure rooming with all 3 of you. I thought everything went pretty smoothly.
My personal jeer is reserved to a certain annoying individual who will not take a hint. No names but it's all about "ME".
Cheers to Glenn, Jen, and crew. Cheers to my 3 awesome roomies. And especially massive CHEERS of appreciation to all my Metal Family for surprising me with a card and gift regarding the passing of my brother. My tears were from happiness knowing how much people care about me. I'll never forget it! xoxo

Well my Hotel was down by the North Avenue, 2 Marta stops south of the venue too and I have also never been hit up that much in my 8 times previous, but this year I got hammered at least 15 times mostly down there and on Peachtree up off of Ponce De leon street walking towards the Vortex area... For me the thing is if you are immobile or in a wheel chair veteran type, I am willing to give a few duckets but all of these people were able just not willing and sorry I can't give into that type of lazy.... Oh well not a big deal

Everyone's covered pretty much everything general, but I have a couple of cheers!

CHEERS: to all my fellow fans who saw me on crutches and grabbed the door or stepped out of my way. Attending ProgPower with a sprained ankle isn't really ideal, but what are you going to do? Skip? For a sprain? I think not!

CHEERS: to all my amazing friends and husband who helped make life easier for me, whether it was extra trips to the hotel for me, dealing with the bartenders when asking for ice, for my ankle, or escorting me down the unlit and crowded stairs when I planned poorly. It would have been a lot harder for me to do ANYTHING without all of you.

I had a great time, as ever. The music was great, the bands I met were wonderful (the singer for Serenity whipped a chair out for me, at one point, so we could all continue to chat. Really?), the people I got to see or talk with were great.

It's just never long enough! :)

5 - Seven Kingdoms for not only bringing physical form to memes, but using them as a marketing ploy. Come on guys, you're better than that.

I thought it quite clever and I'm sure the ratio of like to dislike on their "marketing ploy" is in their favor. Ridiculous jeer. If you knew the band you would understand they have an amazing sense of humor and as surprising as this may be to you, they like to have fun. I don't think it damages their reputation any to have fun so the "you're better than that" comment is invalid.

Also the fact that you paid attention to the "marketing ploy" means it is working. :Smug:

CHEERS:

Glenn and Jen. No explanation needed.

Rezz, for letting me stay with him Wednesday night \m/

Vespucci's for the awesome food and service. They are so good to the fest goers.

Lanfear, for hanging out with my friend all weekend.

Matt Smith for being present and signing stuff for me.

Beyond the Bridge for being awesome people and taking a picture with me (the whole band!)

All the bands, for being so fan-friendly and playing awesome music.

Amaranthe for handling their situation like pros.

Lance King for taking my money.

JEERS:

That tall guy up front who slowly pushed me off the rail, and then made a comment to his friend that nobody messes with him because he's tall.

Having a hotel room in Norcross.

One of the guys somehow involved in Primordial, for calling the rest of the lineup "gay as fuck" on Facebook.

Lance King for taking my money.
