You know, I never see any asian metal bands on this forum

Let's don't bring up X-Japan in this thread, PLEASE. So here is some more Galneryus!!!! Move over Dragonforce hehehehehe

Wow thanks for the post J-Man, that was great. How do I miss stuff like this??! Oh btw X-Japan:)

I always thought Galneryus sounded like a slightly more progressive version of Angra. It's fast-paced music, but it's never over-the-top ridiculous.
c.

Good comparison, definitely agreed.

wow, you are the first person in a while to name a Japanese metal band I haven't heard of before (NoGod) ...they sound great thanks
That is so awesome I might even put it in my signature! :p Glad I could provide something new to you! I wonder how much else I randomly know about that people might like if I only speak up about it...?
La'miss†Fairy? exist†trace? Vice Risk? Deluhi? Moi dix Mois? La'Mule? Matenrou Opera? So many bands...

Yes, exist†trace are all girls. Suspicions are correct this time! :p

Damn...

Galneryus is good.

Indeed. The new singer elevates the band to a whole other level!

Awesome thread, special thanks to Tammy and TheShredDoctor! You left us a lot to check out, thanks!
Welcome :headbang:

On the more "accessible" side of things:

Oh and calling Death Angel "Asian metal" (especially with a white bassist and drummer and a latino singer) is like calling Suffocation "African metal" or Kiss "Jew rock."

Hey I'm really liking Spring & Autumn! Hadn't heard of them before but that song is really cool!

Here's a folk metal band who found me on twitter right after PPUSA. Pretty interesting to hear the mishmash of cultural influences.

NoGod ... I ignored these guys because I thought they blended into the din of random untalented J-indies bands. Turns out, they have emerged as one of my recent favorites, most particularly for the vocals. If the "style" is too weird, just listen instead ;-) That star.... o_O Good instrumental sections too, very rock meets power metal.

I've been using Pandora a lot lately, especially with work doing overnight now.. we'll I put Gackt in and that seemed to bring up a treasure chest of other nice asian music. I like NoGod, TMRevolution, and Existtrace. Definitely getting the Galneryus cd! I think the only thing I can think of they're missing sometimes are the hooks like an Aquaria or Angra would have had more of but they're killer. The dood at 2:20 in the NoGod video cracked me up. What's odd about Existtrace is with Visual Kei and some other JRock/JPop you usually have guys looking like girls.. but it's kinda reverse for them, at least some of them eh?

Glad to hear that you found some others you like through Pandora! I prefer last.fm by light years but T.M.Revolution hasn't uploaded any of his tunes to it yet. I kinda hope he doesn't discover it because Sony JP would be all over it, removing everything and disabling the whole dang page -_-; You know how I feel about T.M.Revolution (in case you missed it, he's @TMR15 that I'm always going on about on twitter), but I also do enjoy more than a handful of Gackt songs. To be honest, I'm actually not an existtrace fan. I like that song I linked to, but otherwise.... Yeah I do enjoy the dichotomy in their style. It's been about androgyny ans this proves it. It's a "style" not a gender-uniform. Maybe I've just looked at it so much that I can't suspend belief that they are women anymore than I can pretend HIZAKI is actually a woman. Maybe I'm picking up on subtle differences, or i just know already so it's hard to not distinguish. Who knows. I wish I could pull of a visual look as well as those girls.

  And here I thought I spent too much time talking about Asian bands on this forum. Guess that gives me some wiggle room to really go crazy, eh? Galneryus are great and I like them even more with their new singer. They've been posted on this forum a number of times but in different threads. Always good to see them getting some love. :headbang:

Even though you don't like them, they still deserve to be mentioned amongst Asian metal bands. Yeah, I know there's a whole thread dedicated to them, but it was obviously overlooked by the OP. Watch out, I'm about to bring up another band you can't stand. Get ready!

Versailles, also known in the U.S. as Versailles ~Philharmonic Quintet~ are a neo-classical metal band with a heavy dose of speed metal and power metal. That's the best way I've come up with to describe them. They are a visual kei band so they also have a heavy emphasis on costumes, make-up, props, and theatrics, with an aristocrat vampire theme. No, they don't take themselves seriously, but they are serious about putting on a good show! They cite Angra and Dream Theater as influences, amongst others, including X JAPAN of course.

So now that we've covered X JAPAN, Galneryus, and Versailles, let's go a little further with the more "mainstream" (?) bands.

DEATHGAZE ... maybe a little too "nu-metal" for some, and certainly the vocals will be a deal breaker for others.

-OZ- ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXURVYtkApU

girugämesh ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeuftdcGCNg

And something a little old school
SEIKIMA II ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxtnfqvAYvc

That's enough from me for now. If anyone wants to have a discussion on Asian rock and/or pop bands, I'm game for that in the lounge. Dial it up, I'll be on the other end of the line!

Thanks for the recommendations on the extreme stuff. I'm loving it and I'm so happy to see others knowing so many Asian metal bands I've never even heard of! Killer!

I fucking love Girugamesh and DEATHGAZE.
Versailles doesn't quite cut it though.
Now Boris..... Holy Shit:OMG: :kickass: :headbang:

These guys are the best Everything-Metal band on the planet!

Glad you like giru & DEATHGAZE so much!! Versailles are one of my favorite bands but I can't expect everyone to love them like I do  Boris are pretty great but I must admit I don't listen to them much.

BTW, Welcome to the forum!

For Christ Sakes you guys call yourselves Metal Heads and 3 pages and no one posted one of the best Asian bands outside of Loudness. :D

EARTHSHAKER!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dwl2bWbwFE&feature=related[/ame]

Another great song from them was Young Girls. This Video was for a more recent release in 2009.

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV2G3i2VLZg&feature=related[/ame]

What's even more shocking is that no one has mentioned probably the Vigilante who play Prog Metal. They had 2 good releases back in the late 90's, Chaos Pilgramage and Edge of Time. There website is http://vigilantemetal.com/ (the English link redirects to a myspace where the japanese link goes to the website).

Believe it or not this video reminds me of seeing Katagory V at JJ Kelleys at the Chicago Metal Fest...small stage etc.

Here is something Asian for you. It's art at it's finest and beautiful.

EARTHSHAKER!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've always heard about Earthshaker and have heard a handful of songs. I loved what I heard but never got around to listening to more. Those songs that you posted were incredible!! Thanks!! I'm not sure why I kinda ignored these guys. Maybe "so many bands, so little time" syndrome?

Kenso... cool but not my thing. They're really talented(!) but I don't think I could sit and listen to it regularly.

Teru's Symphonia is pretty nice. Reminds me of JAM Project a bit. Not sure if this vid would demonstrate very well since that comparison comes after listen to a lot of JAM Project. (first couple of minutes are nice but way different from the rest)

This is a great thread, There's been a lot of good music to check out (as well as some I'll never listen to again, but it's fun exploring different bands. I love some of old school stuff like Anthem, Loudness, EZO, 44 Magnum.

I'm so happy that you've found some new music to enjoy (and crossed a few off the list forever - lol! - pretty sure I can guess which ones :p)

Here's a little more that leans towards the old school.

HELLHOUND

Why I didn't think to share these guys before... Neo-classical power metal goodness featuring members of Galneryus and Concerto Moon.
ARK STORM

AND

DEAD END, old school visual kei + classic heavy metal. These guys just did a reunion show, they might put out some new music too. I bet Kaosaur would know better than me on this one.

AND

The costuming might be too hokey for some of you. Featuring members of Versailles, Moi dix Mois, Phantasmagoria, Vidoll, and a rolodex of other names
HIZAKI grace project

AND

Lastly but certainly not least, one of the first Japanese rock+metal bands I ever heard and still one of my favorites:
Janne Da Arc

I used to get a real kick out of those ridiculous visual kei bands like Versailles, HIZAKI Grace Project and so forth but now they've just lost their appeal to me. I still love X-Japan when they play like Helloween, but my favorite Japanese metal bands are ANTHEM, LOUDNESS, GALNERYUS, and that sort. I never heard a Chinese metal band I liked and I'm still sifting throught the groups from these other countries.

To me, this is some of the best that Japan has to offer

Also, this is really cool.
