Gamma Ray greatest power metal ever????

Gamma Ray have certainly put on the best power metal show of any that I've witnessed. No pretension, no pandering - just great fun. They were clearly having a blast onstage, and the audience was digging everything.

Priest and Maiden are pure heavy metal, not really power metal. Power metal, as a genre, usually includes mostly double bass driven songs with fantasy lyrics, usually reinforced with high pitched vocals. Although Priest and Maiden certainly have covered that ground, they typically write about things other than unicorns and dragons, and rarely use double bass rhythms. I would say that for consistency and staying true to style in power metal exclusively, Gamma Ray, Helloween, Edguy, Strato, and Angra are at the top of the heap, really.

As far as output,longevity,lyrics,class,etc. I think I would probably consider them the greatest ever!!!! Anybody else agree? If not name one band who you feel is the greatest POWER METAL of all time!! Blind Guardian is probably right there also but I still think GR is best!!!!!! Helloween used to be but lately they have let me down. If GR is not your fav name one who is!!!

It all comes down to personal tastes. I wouldn't put Gamma Ray in my Top 50 favorite Power Metal bands.

I believe that Sonata once said in an interview that they considered themselves melodic metal, not power metal.

Yeah I agree GR,BG and STRATOVARIUS are the best power metal bands.But what is really a fact is the MR. Hansen is the most important and and legendary figure in the power metal world he is the father

Angra and Blind Guardian would get my votes. I'm more in an Angra mood lately though. Rhapsody would have been considered among these three if they had continued with the greatness they had on Symphony of Enchanted Lands Part I through Power of the Dragonflame with their last two lackluster releases.
