Gigantour Second Stage Bands

New news......could be good:

5.26 update
Droogies!

I was cruising the Gigantour site and noticed how many of the other bands fans are there. This is going to be very kewl because I believe you will meet and make new friends or get some good sparring in. I personally hope the former.

I have also confirmed another band for the Stage 2 and that announcement will come later today. I am also thinking about adding another band to each stage, which could mean moving someone from Stage 2 to Stage 1, and I also have my sight on a really kewl new school band that does old school metal (actually two), and a veteran act for Stage 2.

Stay tuned, its gonna get real busy here before we leave for Europe on Monday morning. We are going to change our set list up for this summer (we have to in some places because we have less time than when we headline) and I think you will be surprised because they are some older songs. And I can't wait to see all of you awesome Droogies and She-Wolves again real soon.

Finally, Lance was out here with me mixing a live track from Wembley of the RIP lineup doing "Rattlehead" for the DVD, as well as some instrumental mixes he did of some other little tidbits for soundbeds under the DVD's menu.

And I will be seeing Michael Sarna for more filming of the Gigantour documentary this Friday; just more preliminary stuff like when we confirmed some of the other bands, and phone calls, etc. Also interview footage of why I am undertaking this insanity to please us all.

Right? Right!

Have a great day

More cockteasing from Mega-Dave...

Damn...he's even worse than Glenn...(didn't think that was possible)...!

Rock on!

I don't know what it would take to make some people even remotely happy. I don't like every band on the bill, but I don't like every band on the bill for PP this year either. In fact, I like less than half of them, but it is not my festival. If I don't want to go...I don't go, its that simple. I may voice an opinion that the bands aren't my cup o' tea, but I don't go on bashing the promoter/organizer of the show.

Dave is sure going for the mainstream/commercial alright, S:X, Nevermore, DEP, possibly LOA...yeah those bands are so mainstream it's ridiculous. Even a band like Boba-whatever, they're so mainstream/commercial I've never heard of them. I really hope books a dissonate, discordant, atonal, performance art band, so I can stand there and pretend to like them, with a smug, self-important, pious attitude, because all the other unenlightened music fans 'just don't get it.' Fuck that...put Anthrax on the bill and you got a line-up that will rock balls... :headbang:

Running order & set times for both stages...
Friends,

A few days ago, while considering what to do for the first week or so of shows until Dillinger Escape Plan joins Gigantour, and what my options were at the time when my fantastic "Co-Headliners" Dream Theater were going to have to depart, I mentioned that I may move someone to Stage 1 from Stage 2. Well, I am no longer considering that.

You see, I had contemplated having six acts on each stage, but at that length of time and with that amount of talent, each band would have had their set-time cut down, and I would just be having bands on for the sake of having bands on.

I am not a "second-guesser" kind of guy, and I am going to stick with five acts per stage, and keep the set times as long as I can with respect to each band and their accomplishments so far.

Of course, there is sure to be some instances where one act is bigger than another in a different city as opposed to their position on the bill, but the "goings on" behind the scenes on a touring festival like this is quite laborious and once things are in a groove, it is much easier AND better for the crew working in the trenches everyday to keep it in the groove. You must know that the Bands make it "rock", but the crews make it "roll."

So, here are the set times for Stage 1:

Megadeth - Co-headline (90 mins)
Dream Theater - Co-headline (90 mins) confirmed through 6/21-9/3/2005
Fear Factory - Special Guests (45 mins) confirmed 6/21-9/11/2005
Dillinger Escape Plan - Guests (30 mins) confirmed 8/2-9/11/2005
Nevermore - Guests (30 mins) confirmed 6/21-9/11/2005

Stage 2:
Life Of Agony (40 mins) confirmed 6/21-9/11/2005
Symphony X (30 mins) confirmed 6/21-9/11/2005
Dry Kill Logic (20 mins) confirmed 6/21-9/11/2005
[last act to be confirmed this week] (20 mins) 6/21-9/11/2005
Bobaflex (20 mins) confirmed 6/21-9/11/2005

Once DT has to leave, I have my short list for the next act to finish out the last week of Gigantour 1 in North America; Anthrax, Testament, and Overkill are just to name a few. In fact, I left things with Scott Ian and we both agreed, that it would be a perfect time and position for Anthrax, as I am sure it would.

So, for now, I am pretty much done with all of the selecting talent, excluding the announcement of the "new school who does old school" metal band coming up this week. The Holiday took precedence over the tour business and I was unable to wrap this up before the weekend, but it will get finished this week.

I want to wish a great Memorial Day Weekend to the friends here who celebrate it, and to all of my awesomes guests on the roster for Gigantour 1.

I kind of had a feeling that once he announced LOA that S:X wasnt going to be headlining the second stage, which is too bad because of the length of their songs. Oh well at least people will get to enjoy LOA, who are one of the best live bands I have seen.

S:X was the band he was gonna move to the first stage had he decided to add another band to each stage, but he's sticking with 5 per stage. I'm very curious as to which band he is talking about for the last slot...new band who plays old school metal...?

I guess Dave was really right about the "if it's not announced here, it's not necessarily true," since it was "officially" announced at the Symphony X forum that they were headlining and would have 45 mins.

I hate to be a Negative Nellie, but I'm not the least bit psyched about this lineup.

I've already seen Symphony X and Nevermore five times each (including TWICE each since their latest releases)... I have very little desire to see Dream Theater or Megadeth, since I only like a few of their albums... the only bands I would really be interested in seeing are DEP, and maybe Fear Factory (I'm not terribly familiar with them, but since everyone I know says Mnemic sounds like them, it's worth giving them a shot).

If the last band is someone unbelievably awesome, and if the ticket prices aren't too high, I MAY consider going, but I doubt it.

I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too with these kinds of things....

You should have been at Powerfest. Alicia made AWESOME cheesecake and brought it to the pre-party. :) Plus, Morgana Lefay and Tad Morose got 1.5 hour sets. :)

Well....I haven't seen Symphony X live ever, since their last couple things skipped the Southeast, but I might just wait to see them when they tour for their next album. I want to see what Dream Theater's set list will be also......and Symphony X. I guess Dream Theater will be playing a bunch of older stuff also, besides Octavarium and ToT, since they have 90 minutes, I've never seen them live....but if I don't want to go to Gigantour I can always see them on the Evening With Dream Theater leg they'll do.

Nevermore and DEP would be nice, I guess, but I'm not a megafan of either band....and going to see Nevermore and really enjoying would mean buying probably two of their albums and listening through beforehand......not sure if I care about doing that. We'll see.

Apparently Dave Mustaine wouldn't know "talent" or "good music" if it bit him in his hypocritical Christian ass.
Fuck off. Do you ever have a positive thing to say about anything? It seems every post you make is negative in some manner. One more time...If you don't want to go - DON'T GO! I think the Ozzfest line-up is a joke, but I don't go on whining about it..I just don't go.

Yeah, I'm awful.....my only defense is that the Ozzfest lineup is bad by default, but when it started, this looked like it could be something great. I still might be going though.....the first stage + Symphony X is a pretty good lineup.

Okay......I'm apologizing for bitching now. I've taken stock again.......and yes, I'm still bitter because Pain Of Salvation aren't on the fest. So....to take stock:

Megadeth: Good, and never seen them live
Dream Theater: Great, and never seen them live
Dillinger Escape Plan: Pretty good once I actually finish listening to 'Calculating Infinity'
Nevermore: I'll pick up 'Enemies Of Reality' for $5, I like what I've heard from them and the new mix on it is amazing.
Symphony X: Great

Don't know Fear Factory.....So....counting up, that's four and a half hours of good music for $35.

I'm done complaining.

hey pumpkin dont forget about LOA, they are phenomal regardless of what you say.

Tell me what I should listen to......I went to their site and immediately heard something at the level of like....Crossfade in genericness (not a word).

Oh.....and maybe there would be a very, very small chance of Mike Patton making a guest appearance with DEP on the tour? Eh? :D

Actually, OzzFest has been pretty good, last year and this year -- certainly better than this tour.

2004: (italics denotes bands that I consider to be worthwhile)

Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
Slayer
Dimmu Borgir
Superjoint Ritual

Black Label Society
Slipknot
hatebreed
lamb of god
Atreyu

Bleeding Through
Lacuna Coil
Every Time I Die
Unearth
God Forbid
Otep
Devil Driver
Magna-Fi
Throwdown
darkest hour

and 2005 is even better:

Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Mudvayne
Shadows Fall
In Flames

Black Label Society
Velvet Revolver
Rob Zombie
Killswitch Engage
As I Lay Dying
Mastodon

A Dozen Furies
The Haunted
Arch Enemy

The Black Dahlia Murder
Bury Your Dead
It Dies Today
Soilwork
Trivium
Gizmachi
Wicked Widsom

I gonna have to agree with boob because ozzfest has plenty of good bands, but they also have plenty of bad ones. Where as Progpower has only bands that I want to see, which is awesome 15 bands that rock shit!

Well.....we just have different tastes in that area. Anything metalcore on Ozzfest to me is crap. I'm not a huge fan (or don't know) Soilwork's or In Flames' older material, but you can bet they'll only be playing their respective core and Korn-copy material here, maybe with one old song.

I basically see Ozzfest as a compilation of crappy bands.......and the few good bands on there will have already toured extensively that year, so it's not like they're bringing anything new to the table. The exception is Black Sabbath and Maiden, but I don't care enough about either band to go to Ozzfest.

If I could go to any metal festival in the US besides Prog-Power, it would be the Maryland Deathfest......best of the best death metal.

Hmmm....someone posted this on another message board, something Pain Of Salvation related.

Redheadsrhot said:
While wading through all of my emails, between the free porn offers and enlarge your penis stuff I got the email that made me damned happy.

But here is a info why, and what led to this email.

I had read about PoS not being on the tour and I flipped, the band with the biggest demand to be on the tour, not gunna be on it. I just wanted to know why, so I took the liberty of emailing the management of PoS .So, I had sent an email to the management, which I shall post here.

I was recently informed that, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth and the boys
from Dream Theater are holding a huge tour by the name of Gigantour.

Now, I do realize that Pain of Salvation was actually reccomended by
Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater for the tour, which I found awesome.

Now I understand that Mustaine and co. have been trying to contact the
PoS management and have not gotten a responce yet.

Now I am not sure if you are just ignoring the invitation to this tour
or not, but if you are you should definatly stop ignoring it, and
maybe even consider trying to get the band on the tour. It would be
the perfect thing to get a growing fan base over here in the states,
and even to show the current US fans such as myself, that we are not
forgotten, as it seems to be many times. I mean the only time I can
really remember PoS over here was at the Prog power festival, and
well, that is a very small event. This will give the band 10,000
possible new fans every day that they play.

Now if the band members are the ones who do not want to tour over
here, which would be a sad thing indeed, than I am all fine with
respecting their decisions, because I really do not want to be one of
the fans who doesn't care much about the band members themselves.

However, if it is not them, please...please consider the tour as you
would be opening a whole new audience for Daniel and co.

Signed,

Devout Pain of Salvation fan

after 3 days I got this reply...from Daniel himself ^__~

Hi David,

Thanks for your e-mail. We did reply to the offer about a month ago,
but has since then not heard anything more about it. We simply thought
they were not interested anymore, but your e-mail suggests there might
have been an error in communication, who knows... Just to be sure I
sent a new reply to the original offer only 10 minutes ago. We are of
course interested in going on tour with Megadeth, depending on what the
situation would be.

Take care,
Daniel

Now I just wanted to post this so I could give some people hope, that Pain of Salvation may be able to get on the tour after all.

Oh and just to make my ego feel good Daniel emailed moi =P
